Fans Call for Dream Casting of Harry Potter Star as Dumbledore

Gary Oldman has been pondering the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, suggesting that “maybe in a few years, I could portray Dumbledore.”

A recent casting call has been issued for the new Potter series, seeking young actors to portray beloved characters Harry, Ron, and Hermione, alongside their fellow classmates.

During last night’s Emmys, Gary Oldman – known for his role as Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film series – shared his thoughts on possibly joining the show.

“No one’s approached me about that,” Oldman expressed to IndieWire in the video below, adding, “I’m always [up for it]. I loved playing Sirius. He wasn’t in it enough. He appeared, then passed through the Veil. I would wager that they will assemble an entirely new cast of actors.”

Oldman then made the compelling remark: “Maybe in a few years I could take on Dumbledore.”

Professor Albus Dumbledore was originally portrayed by Richard Harris in the early Harry Potter films, before Michael Gambon assumed the role following Harris’s passing. More recently, Jude Law depicted a younger version of Albus in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

The idea of Gary Oldman as Dumbledore has captured the hearts of Potterheads, with one fan tweeting: “Gary Oldman as Dumbledore would be a dream.”

Another user wrote: “WHAAAT!? Gary Oldman as Dumbledore? Sign. Me. Up. This would be epic casting.” A further positive reaction noted: “I like Gary Oldman as Sirius and think he’d be a fun Dumbledore.”

Another comment added: “I’m so down for this, make Gary Oldman Dumbledore and then cast Daniel Radcliffe as Sirius Black.”However, it seems improbable that Radcliffe would reprise his role.
