Fans call for removal of controversial character in Captain America 4 reshoots

The reshoots for Captain America 4 have started, and many fans are taking this chance to plead with the MCU to eliminate the contentious character Sabra from the movie.

According to public records, it has been discovered that the production of Captain America: Brave New World has established a location in Grantville, GA, for reshoots. Social media users have been spreading this news throughout the week, urging the production team to remove Sabra from the highly anticipated superhero film.

Despite some milder comments from fans on Nexus Point News’ update, such as “REMOVE HER”and boycotts of Captain America 4 if Sabra is included, others have taken a more offensive approach, making derogatory remarks about Sabra’s race and gender.

The decision to cast Sabra sparked a great deal of controversy, which was further exacerbated by the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Critics were highly critical of the character, with author Waleed F. Mahi expressing to CNN that the comic “does not bode well for the direction this film is taking,”and denouncing the concept of a spy and assassin transforming into a superhero as “insensitive and shameful.”

Marvel has stated that they will not be strictly adhering to the comics when it comes to the character. In a statement released after the casting, Marvel reassured fans that the filmmakers will be offering a fresh take on Sabra, a character who has been in the comics for over 40 years.

Sabra is a controversial Israeli mutant and spy turned superheroine.

Sabra, a mutant from Israel and member of the Mossad, was first introduced in an Incredible Hulk storyline. Despite not being a well-known character, Sabra has been a consistent presence in Marvel stories for many years, often appearing alongside iconic heroes such as Captain America, The Avengers, and the X-Men.

Despite being the first Israeli superheroine, Sabra has faced criticism from both fans and critics for her portrayal over the years. Many have taken issue with not only how Sabra is depicted, but also how she is contrasted with others from her country.

The ongoing reshoots are not expected to exclude Sabra from Captain America: Brave New World, as she has already been included in promotional material, including Happy Meal toys. Additionally, it has been reported that some of the film’s villains, such as the Serpent Society, may have already been removed.

Captain America: Brave New World will be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
