Fans Call for Severe Punishment for Sexual Harassment by Fans Towards BTS’s Jin

The Seoul Songpa Police Station announced on June 14th that they had received a complaint through e-People. The complaint requested an investigation into fans who allegedly attempted to kiss Jin and accused them of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act. The police are currently reviewing the content of the complaint to determine if a formal investigation should be conducted.

The individual who filed the complaint, known as A, stated their motivation for submitting it on an online fan platform. They referenced an article which claimed that certain fans had attempted to sexually harass Jin by trying to kiss him at a fan meeting where he hugged 1,000 fans to celebrate his discharge. As someone who regularly enjoys BTS’s music, A expressed feeling outraged by this incident.

A also implored the authorities to promptly conduct an investigation and administer strict punishments to the fans who sexually harassed Jin in accordance with Article 11 of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.

After being discharged, Jin organized a “hug event”at the Jamsil Arena in Seoul on June 13th, where he warmly embraced 1,000 fans. This event, which was held as part of the “2024 FESTA”celebration for BTS’s 11th debut anniversary, marked Jin’s first in-person appearance since his discharge and garnered a lot of excitement from fans.

Jin received his fans with open arms and a sign that said “Hug me”. While most fans respectfully hugged him and continued on, a few fans were caught on camera trying to kiss Jin on the cheek, sparking public outrage and stirring controversy among the fan community.

The behavior was met with criticism from netizens who expressed their disapproval, stating that it had ruined a meaningful event and constituted sexual harassment, with some even stating that it had crossed the line.

Upon returning, Jin was released from his military duties on June 12th.
