Fan’s Concept: Pokemon Classic Collection

It’s hardly unexpected that Nintendo Switch owners are eager to play original Pokemon games on the console. The first and second generation titles are widely recognized as beloved classics, and many fans have suggested that Nintendo Switch Online would be an ideal platform for their release.

Despite fans expressing their desire for the Pokemon games to be available on the Switch, the possibility of ports seems to be diminishing as the Switch enters its eighth year on the market.

After growing impatient, content creator @Light_88_ took action by sharing a mock-up on X. This mock-up features a concept for a Pokemon Classic Collection, which would allow players to access all mainline Pokemon games from before the Nintendo DS era on the Nintendo Switch through NSO.

This theoretical compilation features the Pokemon games Green, Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Fire Red, and Leaf Green. It’s a bold concept, and given the worth of these titles, it would offer significant value in a single cartridge.

Numerous comments can be found below the post expressing hope for something similar. A fan enthusiastically stated, “This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for for years!”Another chimed in, “Yes! I’ve always wondered why they haven’t made them playable on the Switch again.”

The consensus among comments is that any potential collection should be a larger release on the Switch, similar to the Castlevania Advance Collection or TMNT: Cowabunga Collection, rather than just being available on Nintendo Switch Online.

As one individual noted, “The collection should be available as a switch game, not just on NSO,” while another expressed, “I hope it’s not exclusively through NSO.”

Based on the feedback received, it is clear that individuals want the complete collection to be easily accessible, with the inclusion of behind-the-scenes artwork and information similar to that found in recent collections. Furthermore, physical ownership of games remains a significant attraction for collectors and preservationists.

Despite the optimism surrounding the idea, there are some who doubt that Pokemon would include such a large number of valuable games in a single package. One commenter suggested that it is more likely that each generation will be re-released separately for $40, with the possibility of a collection featuring all of Gen 1 and 2 for $60 being a fortunate bonus.
