Destiny 2’s recent patch, heralded by the launch of Episode Heresy, has received a mixed reception. While players have generally applauded the new content, significant portions of the game have encountered frustrating malfunctions, rendering them unplayable.
The arrival of Heresy Act 1 has drastically impacted the seasonal offerings of Revenant, with numerous activities failing to function as expected. Concerns include the inability to select Major Fieldwork, the disabling of healing regeneration in Onslaught Salvation, and the complete absence of Champions within Kell’s Fall.
This wave of gameplay issues has stirred considerable discussion within the Destiny 2 community. Reddit has become a hotspot for these grievances, with one particular thread amassing over 1, 500 upvotes, highlighting the growing discontent among players. Many expressed their frustration over their stalled progress, with users commenting, “I wanted to catch up since I left in Act 2, and now I can’t do the fieldwork because the table doesn’t have a prompt, ” and another adding, “Yeah, this is super frustrating – I’ve been trying to catch up and facing the same issues.”

Amidst these complaints, some players speculated about the potential root causes, with hints toward last year’s layoffs affecting quality assurance teams: “They fired off all of their QA testers when they did the layoffs. They can’t release a single damn thing without another thing breaking.” Another comment highlighted a significant oversight in quality testing, stating, “This is bare bones basic regression testing QA – the point is this shouldn’t have happened. There are modes that just don’t work at all.”
This critique was broadly echoed in various comments, with users reflecting on the wisdom of layoffs: “I’m starting to think laying off all the QA testers was a bad idea, ” and “Gutting the QA debt was quite possibly one of the most profound 7D chess moves.”
Bungie’s Response and Upcoming Fixes
The outcry from the community hasn’t gone unnoticed by Bungie, who have acknowledged these technical challenges. Their Known Issues page explicitly addresses several of the problems:
- The Major Fieldwork missions for Revenant are currently inaccessible.
- During the Kell’s Fall boss fight, a portal might fail to open post-multi-phase, causing players to experience a soft lock.
- Players lacking revive tokens may find themselves stuck on the “Finding Spawn Location” screen after dying, unable to restart the activity or return to Orbit.
These specific issues have been flagged for resolution, indicating that fixes are on the horizon. However, concerns not explicitly noted on the Known Issues page may remain unresolved for the time being.
The positive aspect of this situation is that Episode Heresy will continue until July 15, providing ample time for players to revisit and complete content from Revenant. While waiting for Bungie to implement necessary fixes, there is no immediate rush to miss out, especially with five months until the release of Frontiers.
