Following the circulation of EXO Kai’s photos in Bali on the internet, a heated discussion among K-pop enthusiasts was ignited regarding the regulations of the military.
Controversy Surrounding EXO Kai’s Vacation During Military Service
The celebrity sparked debate after he reportedly appeared in Bali on vacation while still fulfilling his military duties.
To further support the argument, various photos and videos were shared on the internet, causing uproar among K-pop fans who questioned his departure from the country despite being enlisted as a public service worker.
South Korea specifically enacted a law mandating that male citizens must fulfill their military service obligations before reaching the age of 28.
Despite the initial bill proposing an exemption for K-pop idols who have brought prestige to South Korea and the government, only the “BTS Law”was ultimately passed. This law allows for idols to postpone their mandatory enlistment until the age of 30, providing them with an additional 2 years of service exemption.
In January 2023, EXO’s Kai will celebrate his 30th birthday (Korean age). He will then enlist in the military in May of the same year without any conditions.

Prior to beginning their military service, idols were not allowed to travel abroad or participate in any international events.
As a result, K-pop fans were left perplexed by Kai’s trip to Bali with his friends, considering that he was still serving in the army and his discharge date had not yet been confirmed.
Despite this, non-EXO-L K-pop fans expressed their disappointment and highlighted the perceived “unfairness”towards other idols and civilians serving in the military.
The following are a few of the comments:

Supporters Defend EXO Kai
Despite receiving significant backlash, EXO Kai was defended by his loyal fanbase, EXO-Ls.
As a result, the idol was granted a day off from his military duties, allowing him to leave the camp with the approval of the general. This also permitted him to travel outside of the country.
It can be inferred from Kai’s ability to fly beyond Korea that he had obtained official authorization to go on a vacation in Bali, even if he was still serving in the military.
EXO-Ls responded to other fans who were attacking Kai by leaving comments such as:
IT’S HIS DAY OFF! !! plus korean military men an leave the country with permission pic.twitter.com/SdUd0EiTFV

In the first place, he will not pass the immigration if a social worker is not allowed to travel. Be informed please.

However, EXO Kai is expected to continue his service as a public service worker for approximately one more year and will be discharged around February 2025.
There are several reasons why Kerries may feel frustrated.
