Fans Demand HYBE to Change ILLIT’s Fandom Name for THIS Reason

After the reveal of ILLIT’s official fandom name, fans have been labeling it as the “worst”compared to other groups and are now urging HYBE to alter it due to this criticism.

On September 1, ILLIT officially announced that its fandom name would be “GLLIT”after remaining nameless for approximately six months.

According to a press release from https://m.entertain.naver.com/article/144/0000985826, GLLIT takes its name from the English word “Glitter,”which connotes a bright and shining appearance. This signifies that the fans are the ones who shine the brightest in ILLIT’s eyes and are the ones who bring out the shine in ILLIT.

Belift Lab, the HYBE subsidiary in charge of overseeing the quintet, subsequently stated:

“Please look forward to the many moments that ILLIT and ‘GLLIT’, who shine the most brightly and beautifully to each other, will create in the future.”

The significance of this announcement was heightened by the fact that it coincided with the one-year anniversary of the five-member team’s debut on JTBC’s “R U Next?”To celebrate this milestone, the members engaged with fans through messaging and live broadcasts. ILLIT also took the opportunity to express their love and pride for their dedicated fan base, GLLIT.

Despite the team’s positive view, some supporters were left questioning the fandom’s name.

In the world of K-pop, followers take great pride in their fandom names as they serve as a representation of their identity. This further distinguishes them from other K-pop enthusiasts, creating a bond with their beloved group through a one-of-a-kind endearment.

However, ILLIT fans argue that GLLIT is not the ideal name, as it bears a resemblance to the word “clit,”a vulgar slang term associated with the female reproductive organ. Fans are concerned that the name may be perceived as odd and worry that the group’s fan base could be subjected to sexual references.

Upon hearing the news, netizens were reminded of the past when Jellyfish Entertainment’s newly debuted boy group, Evening’s Newest Etoiles, encountered a similar issue when they had initially planned to name their team BLIT.

Ultimately, EVNNE’s record label opted to alter it following backlash from their fans who expressed concerns about its “hidden connotation.”

As a result, GLLITs are also drawing the attention of HYBE and requesting that the label be reevaluated, despite its beautiful meaning and intention.

Despite the root of the problem lying with malicious internet users, fans expressed concern over the potential impact on ILLIT, particularly considering the majority of its members are minors in their teenage years.

In recent times, there have been growing concerns about the use of idols and celebrities in R-19 content created through deepfake technology. As a result, fans are eager to safeguard the quintet from any potential consequences.
