With the release of Blue Lock season 2, titled “Blue Lock vs. U-20 Japan,”scheduled for October 2024, the anime has been generating excitement through trailers and promotional videos. However, the latest promotional efforts from the studio 8bit have not met fan expectations, leading to disappointment.
Blue Lock season 2 is set to premiere on Saturday, October 5, 2024. This upcoming season will feature a total of 14 episodes, adapting two significant story arcs: the Third Selection Arc and the U-20 Arc. Many fans believe the U-20 Arc could be the standout segment in the series, fueling their anticipation. Regrettably, these high hopes may result in considerable letdown.
Concerns Regarding the Latest Trailer for Blue Lock Season 2
Initially, the second promotional video for Blue Lock season 2 appears satisfactory; however, this perception changes upon closer examination. While character scenes without motion are visually appealing, the animation quality during football match sequences has been criticized.
The animation studio 8bit is recognized for its use of CG animation, a style already evident in the previous season. Nevertheless, the CG graphics showcased in the new promotional video has drawn disparagement, with some viewers likening it to outdated video game cutscenes from two decades ago.
Moreover, the studio’s execution of intense moments from the Third Selection Arc, particularly Ryusei Shidou’s aerial backheel goal, has left fans wanting more. In many scenes, characters are depicted standing idly while the player with the ball moves, contributing to feelings of dissatisfaction.
In light of these animation shortcomings, many fans are questioning 8bit‘s decision to include such scenes in the anime’s promotional material.
Fan Reactions to the Recent Blue Lock Season 2 Trailer
Weeks prior to the trailer’s release, a leak suggested that fans should temper their expectations for Blue Lock season 2. Although many fans hoped the leak was inaccurate, the promotional video seemed to validate the leaker’s warning.
“They were NOT lying when they said to NOT have high expectations for Blue Lock Season 2, cuz HOLY SHHH, WE are cooked. This is mostly just 3rd selection scenes, so hoping they go crazy for the U20 arc with Isagi, Shidou & etc…,”one fan expressed.
“Blue Lock Season 2 is getting the Tokyo Revengers treatment; we’re cooked,”another fan added.
“Insane that somehow they managed to make it worse. Take Blue Lock away from 8Bit please, they can’t hack it,”another concern was voiced.
Despite the mixed reactions, some fans appreciated that the promotional video only highlighted scenes from the Third Selection Arc instead of the eagerly awaited U-20 Arc. This has led many to hope that 8bit has dedicated more resources to improving the animation for the latter arc, potentially leading to better quality.
Conversely, some fans began drawing comparisons between Blue Lock and other anime like Tokyo Revengers and Tower of God. While Tokyo Revengers has consistently faced animation issues, Tower of God appears to follow a trend similar to Blue Lock, featuring poorly animated sequels after a well-received first season.
“Literally what is wrong with this? It’s a still frame of animation vs. a manga panel,”one viewer asked.
“Blue Lock fans thinking that every anime screencap has to look like a manga panel,”commented another.
Some anime aficionados attempted to defend the animation studio, suggesting that other than the poor CG, the overall animation quality was not as dire as many fans were suggesting. They argued that expecting every anime still to mirror manga panels was unrealistic.
