Fans of “Am I Racist” Discover Oddity in Documentary’s Rotten Tomatoes Rating

Am I Racist, the satirical documentary by right-wing podcaster Matt Walsh, boasts an impressive critic score despite its limited presence in mainstream media.

The year 2024 has been remarkable for documentaries, featuring compelling titles like Chimp Crazy and the deeply unsettling Worst Ex Ever.

Now, the genre welcomes another noteworthy addition that has gained traction among its dedicated audience: Matt Walsh’s Am I Racist.

Currently holding a remarkable 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this right-wing podcaster’s foray into documentary filmmaking has stirred conversations, particularly as many enthusiasts observe that major media platforms are boycotting the film.

Characterized as a mockumentary reminiscent of Borat, Am I Racist follows Walsh on a pseudo journey to determine whether he harbors any secret racist views through a series of provocative public stunts.

Despite the underlying negative implications, Am I Racist has resonated strongly with viewers, securing a certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Yet, Walsh’s latest endeavor has not received much promotion from mainstream outlets, which may be attributed to the controversial tactics employed by Walsh and his production team.

Author Robin DiAngelo, known for her influential work “White Fragility,”disclosed that Walsh deceived her into participating in the documentary, including making her pay “reparations” to a black producer.

“When I arrived for the interview, a few things felt off. The grips would not make eye contact with me, and the interviewer, introduced as ‘Matt,’ wore an unconvincing wig,” DiAngelo stated on her website. “I was deeply unsettled by how Matt manipulated this final scene, prompting me to email the contact person to clarify that this scene was not an authentic example of reparations and could mislead viewers.

I requested that they exclude it from the film and provided various resources outlining genuine systemic efforts for reparations. He assured me that he understood and mentioned they hadn’t yet decided whether to include reparations in the film, but he never contacted me again or responded to my emails.”
