Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen push for unconventional changes in the anime

Despite Jujutsu Kaisen’s recent surge in popularity, fans are still hoping for an unconventional change in the anime.

Despite only having two seasons and one prequel/movie, the worldwide popularity of Jujutsu Kaisen is undeniable. In 2024, it even broke the world record for being the most sought-after animated series.

Despite its popularity, viewers have pointed out that the anime show, Jujutsu Kaisen, could benefit from incorporating more lighthearted moments. The series is notorious for its frequent character deaths and the characters often face depressing events. In other words, while the show is filled with tragedies, it lacks in comedic relief.

Although this initially set Jujutsu Kaisen apart from traditional shonen anime such as One Piece and Naruto, fans now desire some light-hearted filler moments between canon incidents after a prolonged dark period.

Despite being one of the most disliked aspects of anime due to their exclusion from the main storyline, fillers do have some positive effects. They can contribute to world-building and strengthen the relationships between characters.

Jujutsu Kaisen is renowned for its lack of filler episodes and its faithful adaptation of the original manga. While this benefits the anime, it also means that the series lacks some much-needed lighter moments.

In the first season, the anime includes comedic moments at the end of each episode, labeled as ‘Jujutsu Stroll’, to make up for this. However, these humorous after-credit scenes are absent in the second season, leading to discontent among many viewers who are demanding more.

“One user on Reddit wrote, “Please… I can’t handle all the deaths…”expressing a desire for more filler content. Another user joined in, stating, “Ah, it seems like Jujutsu Kaisen fans are the only ones who actually want filler.”

One fan noted, “I have noticed a lack of “filler”or break episodes in recent shonen anime, which seems to be an extreme response to the excessive filler in older shonen shows. It is unfortunate because I often enjoy seeing the characters engage in lighthearted and humorous situations.”

The Jujutsu Kaisen anime is set to make a comeback, but it remains to be seen if fans’ desire for this alteration will be fulfilled in Season 3.
