Song Mino Faces Scrutiny Over Allegations of Preferential Military Service
On December 23rd, former journalist Lee Jin-ho’s YouTube channel shed light on the escalating controversy surrounding allegations of Song Mino’s subpar military service. The discussion gained traction after images from Song Mino’s sister’s wedding, which took place in the United States in May, were shared publicly.
Lee emphasized that while Song Mino was serving as a public service worker at that time, he reportedly flouted military regulations by sporting long hair. Moreover, it came to light that he had not even completed the preliminary basic military training that is typically required.
The basis for Song Mino’s assignment to public service was his claims of having bipolar disorder, panic disorder, and social phobia. However, questions arose regarding the authenticity of these claims, as viewers noted his seemingly stable mental health during various television appearances prior to his enlistment. This led to speculations that he might be experiencing what some have termed “selective panic disorder.”
In a bid to investigate the allegations further, Lee conducted an on-site inspection of Song Mino’s work location. He ventured on foot from the singer’s residence to the Mapo Resident Convenience Facility, where Song Mino was employed. His findings indicated that the commute was a mere 14-minute walk or a 2-3 minute drive, suggesting an unusually convenient working situation.
Despite these favorable conditions, public sentiment continues to sour. Social media users have condemned Song Mino’s behavior, expressing their outrage through comments such as, “Claiming daily life is impossible? That’s disgraceful,” and “Even elementary school kids walk 15 minutes.” Some have even gone as far as to suggest that he should face serious consequences, stating, “He shouldn’t be re-enlisted; he should be jailed for illegal conduct.”
As the discussions surrounding this controversy persist, SBS’s investigative program “Curious Story Y” has commenced a public solicitation for tips relating to the case. Concurrently, the Military Manpower Administration and police authorities have initiated internal inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Song Mino’s military service.
