Fans of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga are navigating a storm of emotions following the series’ conclusion. The final chapter, released on September 30, has drawn significant criticism aimed at mangaka Gege Akutami, sparking a heated discussion within the anime and manga community.
A primary concern among readers is the plethora of unanswered questions that emerged after the series ended. Many fans feel that the manga has left numerous plot points unresolved. For those who have closely followed the journey of Jujutsu Kaisen, this absence of closure is understandably frustrating.
Conversely, a segment of the fandom has rallied in support of Gege amidst the backlash, appreciating the series’ profound impact and the creator’s dedication. This response reflects a broader frustration with the often unrealistic and demanding expectations placed on manga authors.

Jujutsu Kaisen fandom divides over the manga’s controversial ending
In the final chapter, after the defeat of Sukuna and Kenjaku, Yuji and his comrades returned to Jujutsu High to recuperate from their intense battle. Nobara discovered the location of her mother, which she was indifferent about, while Megumi learned about Gojo’s past actions against his father, prompting laughter from him.
As a trio, Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara were assigned to handle a Curse User. In a significant moment, Yuji recalled a pivotal conversation with Gojo where he emphasized the need for sorcerers to discover new methods to tackle challenges. Yuji acted on this advice by encouraging the Curse User to reform and ultimately join their ranks. Thus, Yuji’s journey in Jujutsu Kaisen reached its end.
In an intriguing twist, Sukuna and Mahito appeared in the series’ final moments, engaging in dialogue in the afterlife. Sukuna acknowledged he could have chosen a different path, while Mahito expressed a desire for vengeance due to his past suffering. Sukuna further mentioned that he would strive to change his ways if reincarnated.
In response to this ending, some fans have asserted that Akutami neglected the character development, resulting in a lackluster finale. They have accused Akutami of prioritizing a hasty conclusion over the intricate storytelling that characterized the series.
Fan reactions defending Gege
Supporters of Gege argued that much of the criticism stems from fans dissatisfied with Gojo’s fate. Others defended the simplicity of the conclusion, suggesting it was a fitting end to the narrative.
“Most of what I’ve seen were Gojo fans and girls hating on Gege and wanting to take the character away from him his own character,”one fan remarked.
“JJK’s ending is not bad; a lot of complaints come from theories made by fans not realizing the narrative. The Gojo revival thing is the worst part. Like, why would Gege revive him at the end anyway? His story was already complete,”another user argued.
Some fans vehemently disagreed with the tide of negativity directed at Gege Akutami, insisting that the criticism is disproportionate, considering the constraints he faced during the concluding chapters.
Others pointed out that while it’s natural for fans to express disappointment when a cherished series doesn’t end as imagined, there exists a boundary that should not be crossed.
“I disagree with all the hate directed towards Gege; I feel he didn’t have enough time to craft a better ending. Maybe, like Isayama, he might add extra panels for the volume’s official release,”one fan shared.
“People can be disappointed and criticize him for the ending… but they should not cross the line!”another user added.
This discussion serves as a reminder to keep criticism focused on the artwork and narrative rather than the artist.
