Upon the news spreading, fans were left puzzled, and one individual even commented on a DiscussingFilm post, stating that films like this should not have a budget of $200 million, as evidenced by the budget of the original.

“Is this a Marvel movie?”someone joked in a different Twitter/X thread, referencing the same situation.

Another individual stated that these exorbitant expenses will most likely lead to another increase in Netflix’s prices in the near future. They reassured others by saying, “Rest assured, this cost will ultimately be reflected in your subscription fee.”

In March 2020, Netflix and director Rian Johnson announced a collaboration and signed a massive $469 million deal for two Knives Out sequels, following the success of the first movie.

The agreement is said to have granted Johnson extensive creative freedom and secured the return of Daniel Craig for all future installments. Furthermore, it ensured that both sequels would have a budget of at least $40 million, matching the cost of the 2019 film.

According to individuals who were interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, the Netflix agreement could result in Johnson, his producing partner Ram Bergman, and Craig each earning over $100 million. This significant earnings could possibly account for the substantial budget allocated for the production of Knives Out 2.

Rian Johnson revealed that production had concluded in mid-August 2024, but the specifics of the release date have yet to be disclosed at the time of writing.
