Fans Roast John Cena’s Corny Promo Video for New Movie

“John Cena’s recent promotional video for his upcoming film Jackpot! has received criticism from fans who have deemed it “corny”and left much to be desired.”

The year 2024 will always be remembered for its groundbreaking movie marketing, with standout hits like Longlegs and Alien: Romulus. However, Jackpot!, the new comedy on Amazon Prime Video featuring John Cena and Awkwafina, did not share the same success.

The action movie was released on August 15 on the streaming service. In order to promote its release, Cena utilized Prime Video’s TikTok to explain the entire plot using the slang and language of Gen Alpha.

It goes without saying that the internet has not reacted positively to the results. In fact, numerous individuals have taken to the internet to criticize Cena for his choice of words, including “beta”, “drip”, and “sigma.”

Despite the video’s slight hint of irony and self-awareness, it fails to prevent the TikTok comments section from being flooded with remarks such as, “John, whatever they’re paying you, it’s not worth it.”

The response on X is largely unchanged. A user commented: “Many are labeling it as the most desperate marketing ploy for a movie that no one will ever see.”

Another person expressed their desire to stay offline permanently after being offline all day and seeing this pop up.

One more disheartened remark expressed: “I can never retrieve that one minute and two seconds.”

“One person remarked that there seems to be no limit to how far he will go when promoting a movie, while another commented that the clip was the corniest they had ever watched.”

In the alternate future of Jackpot!, the Grand Lottery in California permits individuals to hunt down and murder lottery winners in order to claim their winnings. Cena plays the role of Noel, a Lottery protection agent who assists Katie (Awkwafina), an unsuspecting lottery winner who becomes the next sought-after target.

If the incorrect use of Gen Alpha language did not discourage you, you can currently stream Jackpot! on Amazon Prime Video.
