On June 24th, Red Velvet returned with their highly anticipated new album “COSMIC”. In celebration of their 10th debut anniversary, Red Velvet’s new album proved their enduring popularity by topping the iTunes Top Album Chart in 41 regions globally, including the US, UK, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan, immediately upon its release. However, fans were left concerned when the release of their title track’s music video was delayed for editing purposes.
Speaking about the matter, Joy openly expressed her unease. When a fan inquired about her thoughts on the music video on a fan communication platform, Joy replied, “Well…Our opinions were not taken into consideration and we just had to wait. In the end, we watched the MV without any changes.”
Prior to the release of “COSMIC”, Joy had been alluding to her dissatisfaction with SM’s management by publicly criticizing them for not promoting Red Velvet’s latest song. She expressed her frustration before SM even announced the group’s comeback schedule, questioning how long they would keep it under wraps and whether they had forgotten about it or would announce it the following week.
Despite Joy’s consistent disapproval of SM’s promotion, fans have begun to speculate that she may have lost trust in the company. For devoted followers of Red Velvet, the topic of the members’ future is a sensitive and crucial matter. While SM has renewed contracts with Irene in February and Seulgi in August of last year, there is still uncertainty surrounding the renewals of Joy, Wendy, and Yeri’s contracts. No official updates have been released regarding the future of Red Velvet as a group.
In light of Joy’s persistent grievances about SM, the likelihood of her renewing the contract has decreased.
