Fashion Showdown: G-Dragon vs. Han Sunhwa

Fashion Showdown: G-Dragon vs. Han Sunhwa

Despite the rising temperatures of early summer, celebrities are still making appearances at various events and airports, flaunting their fashion sense and drawing the attention of YTN Star reporters.

In the Y-Ranking for the second week of June, KAIST was the stage for G-Dragon’s selection as the Best, while actress Han Sunhwa, making a comeback in a romantic comedy, was chosen as the Worst.

◆ Best – G-Dragon

According to reporter Gong Youngju, it is not surprising that GD has skillfully mastered the balance between being dandy and intense.

Kang Naeri, a reporter, highlighted how GD’s fashion choices have made him a fashion and cultural icon. The way he rocks a suit is truly unique, especially with his combination of a sky-blue suit, red tie, and sneakers, which adds a playful touch. After seeing GD’s outfit, many may be inspired to incorporate pastel tones into their own suit choices.

Despite his absence from the music scene, G-Dragon’s reputation as a fashion icon continues to thrive. His recent outfit, consisting of a sky-blue suit, red tie, and sneakers, was a harmonious and refreshing display of his boyish charm. Rumor has it that he has also taken on a role as a special professor at KAIST, and it would be exciting if he could share his fashion expertise through lectures.

Choi Boran, the reporter, adds an artistic touch to his formal attire with the use of linen material and a cool blue color. Despite its formality, the suit exudes a sense of freedom. The addition of a red tie and sneakers adds the perfect touch, balancing the formality with a touch of casualness.

Kim Sunghyun, a reporter, believes that if there was a title for the coolest professor in the world, it would definitely belong to Kwon Jiyong. His spy blue suit paired with a wine-colored scarf only adds to his stylish persona. Even though he wears his brand emblem instead of a corsage and handkerchief, it doesn’t seem excessive because it’s just GD.

Oh Jiwon Reporter: A neat blue suit, comfy red sneakers, a red accessory around the neck, and a casual top underneath. These pieces may seem mismatched at first glance, but the ability to effectively coordinate them is a sophisticated skill in styling.

◆ Good – Dex

Reporter Gong Youngju noted that despite the all-black ensemble, it was far from boring due to the intricate light pattern. She also pointed out that the pointed horn-rimmed glasses were a perfect fit for Dex.

Upon closer inspection, the all-black ensemble takes on a hip and fashionable appearance thanks to the subtle camouflage pattern on both the top and bottom.

Kwak Hyunsu, a reporter, notes that the all-black ensemble is a common sight at formal occasions, but what makes it stand out is that it deviates from the typical suit attire. The carefully coordinated black jumper, pants, horn-rimmed glasses, and tie give off a sense of deliberate planning.

Choi Boran, a reporter, described the outfit as simple yet not boring, thanks to the delicate print. The combination of a casual jacket with a shirt and tie gives a formal touch, while the addition of glasses adds a touch of dandyism. However, the only disappointment was the fit, which was slightly off.

According to reporter Kim Sunghyun, it is difficult to determine from the photo alone whether the design is camouflage or simply a characteristic of the material. However, the distinctive pattern adds an interesting touch to an otherwise potentially dull all-black ensemble. This simple yet powerful combination perfectly complements Dex’s bold and sturdy persona.

Despite not being a full suit, the jumper and tie paired with glasses give off a sophisticated and formal look, showcasing Jiwon Reporter’s dandyism. The only downside is that it may be a bit too warm for June weather.

◆ Park Bogum, also known as Soso

Despite the slightly outdated color and pattern, Park Bogum’s distinctive aura continues to receive applause and never fades. Gong Youngju, a reporter, notes this unique quality.

According to Kang Naeri, the reporter, the checkered shirt may seem comfortable, but it gives off an outdated appearance. She suggests opting for lighter-toned shoes to better complement the light denim pants.

According to reporter Kwak Hyunsu, the decision to wear light-colored denim pants and a checkered shirt is not necessarily a bad one. However, the color of the shirt is too bold in comparison to the pants, causing it to overpower Park Bogum’s face.

As a reporter, Choi Boran understands the importance of a complete fashion look. The engineering student vibe of the shirt fashion is refreshing, but without Park Bogum’s face, it becomes quite ordinary. The combination of jeans, white T-shirt, and checkered shirt all seamlessly blend in without any standout elements.

Kim Sunghyun, a reporter, noted that Park Bogum’s appearance exuded an overwhelming and unrealistic aura, but also maintained a natural and casual look that could easily pass for a student heading to a café for group work. Sunghyun described it as “so simple.”

The overly casual appearance is slightly underwhelming, if I had to mention a flaw. It’s not simple to make a red checkered shirt look stylish, but with Park Bogum, it appears achievable.

◆ Not Good – Ahn Sohee

Reporter Gong Youngju expresses disappointment in the sack-like dress that conceals the woman’s slender figure and the stuffy appearance created by her long hair styling.

According to reporter Kang Naeri, dresses that are too tight and conceal the waistline can be a matter of personal preference. While the dress in question has a subdued color, its fit appears clumsy and accentuates a cute style. Kang suggests that a ponytail hairstyle would have been a more polished choice to complement the dark dress.

According to reporter Kwak Hyunsu, a mini dress can convey a sense of neatness and cuteness, however, the biggest letdown of this particular outfit is its overfit. The way Ahn Sohee wears this dress makes her resemble a person disguised as a long umbrella.

According to reporter Choi Boran, while the mini-length dress without a waistline has a cute overall fit, the long hairstyle and dark color make it appear dated. It appears that Sohee’s charm is hidden under the baggy dress.

According to Reporter Kim Sunghyun, the color and fit appear to be suffocating, especially given the current weather. It would have been more effective to showcase personality and charm through the use of accessories or patterns.

Oh Jiwon Reporter: The color combination is somewhat underwhelming. The combination of navy dress, gold accessories, red watch, and beige shoes appears mismatched. Utilizing brighter tone accessories and shoes may have been a more suitable choice.

◆ Han Sunhwa is considered the worst.

Did Gong Youngju, the reporter, question whether the outfit went too far? She noted the chaotic patterns, long skirt design, and pink color, which were all deemed inappropriate.

Han Sunhwa

According to Kang Naeri, the reporter, the actress may have selected this outfit for the production presentation to portray her energetic character as a children’s entertainer in the drama. Nevertheless, the combination of the shirt and dress still appears mismatched in terms of design and pattern.

According to Kwak Hyunsu, the reporter, the actress’s role in the drama is that of a kids’ creator. However, her outfit gives off the impression of a family restaurant staff member in a small American town. The bright orange striped shirt is eye-catching, but the addition of a pink dress raises questions. The abundance of buttons makes one wonder about the discomfort of wearing such a garment.

Despite being paired with a pink color, the shirt and dress both exude strong self-assertion and do not complement each other. The contrasting stripes and flashy patterns on either side clash, creating a sense of discord rather than harmony.

Despite the brightness of the color, reporter Kim Sunghyun believes that the outfit could have been salvaged with just a pair of jeans and a striped shirt instead of the messy and old-fashioned layered cut dress.

Oh Jiwon Reporter: There are too many patterns clashing in this outfit. The combination of a patterned shirt and an even more patterned dress is overwhelming and busy. The unexpected color combination feels awkward and ultimately disappointing.
