Tyrese Gibson, a prominent actor from the Fast and Furious franchise, has encountered legal troubles, leading to his arrest and a requirement to pay over $73,000 in child support. This situation comes as his co-stars prepare for the upcoming Fast 11, while Gibson’s real-life difficulties could result in imprisonment. The actor, who has portrayed Roman Pearce since 2003, was apprehended at the Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia on September 9.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, he faced contempt charges due to his failure to fulfill child support obligations, totalling $73,525.73.
Since April 2023, Gibson had been mandated to pay $10,690 monthly but only managed to pay $2,200 per month.
Due to the substantial arrears, Judge Kevin Farmer ordered his arrest. However, TMZ reported that Gibson was released after his attorney, Tanya Mitchell Graham, filed an appeal.
The actor is now required to settle the full owed amount within 48 hours, which includes his ex-wife Samantha Lee’s legal fees of $7,500, or he risks jail time.
Gibson is reportedly collaborating with his legal team to pay the fine and return to his home in California.
This incident represents a critical turn in Gibson’s ongoing legal disputes with Lee concerning their daughter, Soraya.
Prior to his arrest, he expressed in a now-deleted Instagram post, “Samantha’s lawyer Adam Gleklen and William Alexander who are besties with the judge Kevin M Farmer [collusion].”
He added, “We are APPEALING ALL OF HIS RULINGS AND ALREADY HAVE TRIED TO GET THIS JUDGE THROWN OFF THE BENCH TWICE. It’s pretty clear that they hate my guts, but I must remind them and everything about my life and my success. I’ve worked my ass off since I was 14 years old to get here. #FamilyLawCourts are the WORST TOWARDS FATHERS.”
