Feedback on Black Ops 6 maps from players is overwhelmingly negative

Despite having the opportunity to play four different Black Ops 6 maps during the opening beta weekend, players were left with predominantly negative impressions.

During the Black Ops 6 beta, which runs from Aug. 30 to Sept. 4, players will have access to four traditional Core maps: Derelict, Rewind, Scud, and Skyline. Two Strike maps, Pit and Gala, have also been included, offering smaller and more compact gameplay options.

This indicates that players have already played 6 out of the 16 launch maps. As it has not been enough time for players to fully experience the Strike maps, it is premature to gather feedback from the community about these maps.

Nevertheless, when asked by CharlieIntel for a top-four ranking of the Core maps, many struggled to find any positives or common ground.

Scud and Derelict were the two most polarizing maps, with Scud being set on a desolate military base that had endured a devastating strike. Players had the option to use trenches for flanking, seek shelter in nearby structures, or strategically position themselves on a satellite dish with a vantage point of the entire battlefield.

Despite being just one small sightline in the center of the satellite, the spot garnered complaints due to its unbalanced nature.

“According to CoD leaker TheGhostOfHope, the Satellite heady on Scud has to be addressed as it negatively impacts the map, as stated in their tweet at https://x.com/TheGhostOfHope/status/1829653528870367423.”

Professional Call of Duty player Purjxng took it a step further and expressed his belief on Twitter (https://x.com/Purjxng/status/1829577322091163709) that “Scud could possibly be the worst map in gaming history.”

At the same time, Derelict achieved the top position on certain lists, but fell significantly below expectations on others.

The classic three-lane design of the map is set in a train graveyard within the Appalachian mountains. While it may be visually appealing with its bright colors, players have faced difficulties in locating their opponents compared to the simpler map, Scud.

According to Inside Gaming’s Tom Henderson, the map Derelict in Black Ops 6 is notoriously difficult. He expressed that during most gunfights, he wishes he had gone to Specsavers as he struggles to pinpoint where he is being shot from.

It would be difficult to find Skyline or Rewind ranked at the bottom of any lists, but neither map was highly praised either.

The addition of only one more Core map during the second beta weekend means that players will have to wait until launch to make a final assessment of the game’s map pool.
