DJ Yesong Sentenced to Prison Following Tragic Drunk Driving Incident
DJ Yesong, a former member of the girl group INSTAR, has been sentenced to prison for her involvement in a fatal drunk driving accident. This decision comes after she failed to respond to the consequences of her actions.
According to a report by Newsis on December 15, the Supreme Court’s Third Division, presided over by Justice Lee Heung-gu, upheld the ruling against Yesong on December 10, dismissing her appeal. She was charged under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, specifically for Dangerous Driving Resulting in Death, along with several other violations.
Details of the Incident
The tragic incident took place in the early hours of February 3 in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam, Seoul. Reports indicate that DJ Yesong, operating a Mercedes-Benz with a staggering blood alcohol concentration of 0.221%, collided with a delivery motorcycle. This crash led to the death of a man in his 50s.
Just ten minutes prior to the fatal accident, it was discovered that Yesong had already crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle, but chose to flee the scene. Following the fatal crash, her lack of response further fueled public outrage and condemnation.
Criticism and Legal Proceedings
Witnesses and reports have detailed that not only did she neglect to offer any form of emergency assistance to the victim, but she also held her dog at the scene while the victim succumbed to his injuries. Furthermore, Yesong reportedly resisted police apprehension and had to be forcibly taken into custody.
In the initial trial, she was sentenced to ten years in prison; however, this was later reduced to eight years by the appeals court. With the Supreme Court’s dismissal of her appeal, the eight-year sentence is now confirmed as final.
