Figarland Garling’s Gorosei Transformation in One Piece: A Possible Confirmation of the Shanks’ Brother Theory

One Piece chapter 1125, released on September 9, 2024, marked the end of Saint Saturn and the ascension of Garling Figarland to the role of Five Elders. With Garling now part of the Gorosei, fans are eager to see what yokai form he might assume, as the other members of the Gorosei have their own yokai transformations, potentially related to devil fruits.

Exploring the mythological connections between Garling and Saturn, there is speculation that Garling may transform into Fenrir, a creature from Norse mythology, suggesting he could have two sons, reminiscent of the legendary beast. Additionally, mythological references suggest one of these sons reaffirms the theory about Shanks having a twin, lending credence to a popular fan theory regarding the character.

In One Piece chapter 1125, after the events on Egghead Island, Saint Saturn’s body was reduced to ashes, leaving only bones behind. Conversely, in the Holy Land of Mariejois, Saint Garling Figarland entered the Gorosei’s chamber to declare himself as Saturn’s successor among the Five Elders.

With Garling now a member of the Gorosei, he may gain significant abilities, including potential immortality, knowledge of the Void Century, and a mysterious yokai form, as suggested in chapter 1125.

Saint Saturn possessed the powers of Gyuki, a spider-bull hybrid from Japanese mythology. So, what abilities might Saint Garling have? His mythical yokai form seems to be hinted at through various clues.

The planet Saturn has a moon known as the Fenrir moon. Fenrir is a mythical werewolf from Norse lore. Furthermore, Garling’s facial hair resembles a moon, a symbol for werewolves as seen in several anime series. This suggests Saint Garling’s yokai transformation could indeed be Fenrir.

According to Norse mythology, Fenrir has two sons: Sköll, who chases the Sun, and Hati, who pursues the Moon. These events are pivotal to Ragnarok, the end of the world in Norse belief.

Like Fenrir, Garling has two sons, one being Shanks, the Conqueror of the Sea and captain of the Red-Hair Pirates. The identity of the other son remains a mystery, but speculation from a notable two-page spread hints at a connection to Shanks’ possible twin, a character who may also be a swordsman.

Similar to Sköll, Shanks has spent his life chasing the Sun, which is linked to the Nika devil fruit. With Luffy now holding that power, it’s conceivable that Shanks and Luffy are on converging paths that may lead them to Elbaf Island.

Furthermore, just as Hati follows the Moon, Shanks’ twin could parallel his father, Saint Garling, suggesting that Shanks’ twin might also be a Holy Knight. Their destinies seem to be intertwined, potentially culminating in a confrontation that symbolizes their opposing legacies.
