As strong winds continue to exacerbate wildfires across Los Angeles, numerous events have faced cancellations, impacting iconic Hollywood sites and disrupting several television series currently in production. The far-reaching effects of these wildfires have begun to be felt within the entertainment industry.
The Palisades, Eaton, and Hurst fires have spread rapidly, with containment levels standing at 0% as of this report. Evacuation orders are in place for thousands of residents, as extraordinary winds aggravate the situation by taking down utilities and allowing the fires to spread unchecked.
Impact on Major TV Productions
The repercussions of these wildfires are increasingly affecting high-profile television productions in the Los Angeles area. As safety remains a priority, several studios have temporarily halted filming indefinitely.
CBS Studios announced that they concluded their Los Angeles shoots as of Wednesday morning, which includes productions such as NCIS and the upcoming NCIS: Origins. Meanwhile, some sitcoms like Poppa’s House and The Neighborhood are adapting by working remotely.
Universal Pictures has also been affected; filming for the series Hacks has been suspended pending the reopening of Universal Studios’ lower lot, which has been closed due to fire containment efforts. In addition, production has ceased for shows such as Loot, Suits LA, and Happy’s Place, alongside operations at the Universal Studios theme park. Furthermore, notable series like Grey’s Anatomy and Doctor Odyssey from 20th Television are now on hold.
Premiere events have not been spared either, with significant openings like Blumhouse’s presentation of Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man and the anticipated medical drama The Pitt featuring Noah Wyle being pushed back from their planned January 8 dates.
As studios remain on high alert, the timeline for resuming production will be dictated largely by the progress of fire containment and any resulting damages. At present, no official estimates have been released regarding potential reopening schedules, leading studios to proceed cautiously as conditions develop.
