Final Fantasy 16: List of Playable Characters for Players

In Final Fantasy XVI, players are thrust into an epic conflict within the expansive world of Valisthea. The primary character you’ll control is Clive. However, like previous titles in the Final Fantasy series, Clive will be joined by various side characters. This leads to the question: can players control these additional characters during gameplay? Here’s what you need to know about controlling characters in Final Fantasy XVI.

It has been confirmed that you can only control the protagonist, Clive. Similar to past entries in the Final Fantasy franchise, Clive will be accompanied by several characters throughout his journey. However, these companions will operate independently from the player, meaning you cannot directly control them as you can in traditional RPGs.

Earlier Final Fantasy games offered a mix of control options regarding party members. However, Final Fantasy XVI opts for a more streamlined gameplay experience, providing players with limited direct control of other characters. All companion characters will be governed by AI, adapting their tactics to complement Clive’s actions.

These AI companions should prove to be valuable assets throughout the game, adapting to your playstyle while engaging enemies. This design was reminiscent of Final Fantasy XV, where players had some influence over their companions’ attack styles and abilities.

Based on the gameplay shown in the trailers for Final Fantasy XVI, it appears that the level of control over companions is limited. The only character that seems to allow for player interaction is Torgal, Clive’s loyal companion.

The development team at Square Enix has chosen this approach to maintain a linear focus on Clive, which simplifies the gameplay and highlights the strategic battles and cinematic combat.
