The endings of the My Hero Academia and Erased series have sparked conversation among fans of anime. Though unexpected, the lack of confirmation for the IzuOcha ship in the finale has become a major concern for both fandoms.
The conclusion of My Hero Academia was recently unveiled, addressing various plotlines such as Bakugo and Izuku’s journeys as heroes. While numerous fans anticipated Horikoshi to solidify the romantic relationships developed throughout the series, the concluding chapter added more uncertainty and left the ultimate status of these relationships up in the air.

Fans of My Hero Academia and Erased have vastly different experiences.
Despite the development of the relationship between Izuku and Ochaco, known as IzuOcha, since the entrance exam, it remained unconfirmed. This caused a rise in memes about the IzuOcha ship, implying that Horikoshi was simply teasing without providing any closure or confirmation.
The Erased fandom, who had also been facing a similar fate ever since the series concluded in 2016, was also affected by this sentiment. In the anime, Satoru, the main character, goes back in time to stop the killing of Kayo, one of his childhood companions.
After confronting the true culprit, Satoru falls into a coma. When he finally wakes up after nearly a decade, he learns that his best friend and the girl he saved, Kayo, now have a family together. Despite the vocal disappointment from fans about the ending, the finale of My Hero Academia has effectively conveyed this same sense of heartbreak to a larger audience.
Fan responses to the conclusion of My Hero Academia
Despite ongoing debates about the ending of the Erased anime and whether the protagonist should have ended up with the female lead character, the majority of the fandom remains dissatisfied with the final outcome. Many devoted Erased fans have expressed that the pain they have been feeling since the series’ ending is now being shared by other fandoms.
“My Hero Academia fans experiencing 0.1% of the Erased fans’ suffering,”one fan said.
“I hate when mangaka set sh** up then pull out the rug from under you,”another fan said.
Despite numerous mentions of the ending being a source of torment for fans, a select few also drew comparisons to the unconfirmed NaruHina ship in the Naruto series. They noted how this mirrored the situation at hand, where the ending was left ambiguous but later confirmed in a canon movie released afterwards.
“This ending gets so much worse every time I think about it holy,”another fan mentioned.
“Maybe they will go the Naruto route and do a post story movie?”One fan said.
The conclusion of Horikoshi’s series has been met with mixed reactions, making it one of the most controversial manga endings in recent years. Although the finale officially wrapped up the series, there is a possibility of additional canon material being released in the form of movies.
