We finally have the filming start date for the horror sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s, revealed in a recent interview with one of the cast members. The news brings an earlier timeline than many had anticipated.
It has been a year since the debut of the initial Five Nights at Freddy’s film, which achieved remarkable box office success, earning close to $300 million globally from a modest budget of $20 million. This accomplishment made it the highest-grossing film for Blumhouse Productions so far.
The adaptation of the popular video game faced an extended period of development struggles, but the film’s triumphant performance led to a swift green light for a sequel. Thanks to insights shared by one of the actors, we now know the start date for principal filming.
During an interview with comicbook.com at New York Comic-Con on October 17, Matthew Lillard announced that production would kick off in “10 days.” This means that filming is set to begin in Chalmette, Louisiana, on October 27, 2024, just one day ahead of what was previously speculated.
This schedule presents a quick turnaround for a film filled with special effects, especially since Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is slated for release on December 5, 2025.
Once again, Lillard will take on the role of the villainous William Afton, which explains the “horrible beard” he humorously mentioned at the convention.
Emma Tammi reprises her role as writer and director, and during discussions about a potential sequel while promoting the first film, she hinted at the inclusion of more animatronics, stating: “I’m really hopeful that we’ll be able to make a sequel, and should that happen, I believe we would reunite with our animatronics. I also think we might introduce some new friends to our audience.”

Fans reacted enthusiastically to the announcement, with one tweeting: “Awesome, can’t wait,” and another noting “that’s exactly one year after the first movie’s release,” referencing that the first film premiered in theaters on October 27.
A third fan speculated about a festive theme for FNAF2, asking: “Guys… best Christmas movie yet???”
The anticipated Five Nights at Freddy 2 is scheduled to grace theaters on December 5, 2025. Until then, you can check out star Josh Hutcherson’s thoughts on the upcoming sequel.
