Experience the classic adventure of DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake like never before with this modern remake from Square Enix. This title stands as one of the most impressive releases utilizing Unreal Engine, boasting low system requirements that allow it to run smoothly on a wide range of hardware. However, despite its advances, the game currently lacks support for ultrawide monitors—a limitation that detracts from the immersive experience. Fortunately, thanks to Lyall from the widescreen community, there is now a patch available that enables ultrawide support for the Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
Addressing Ultrawide Support in Dragon Quest III
The initial release of Dragon Quest 3 Remake does not cater to ultrawide screens, resulting in a pillarboxed display during both gameplay and cutscenes. This format can disrupt the visual experience, especially for players using wider displays. Lyall’s patch rectifies this by introducing full ultrawide support and optimizing the user interface to match.
How to Install the Ultrawide Patch
Applying this patch is a straightforward process. Follow these steps for installation:
- Ensure that Dragon Quest 3 is not currently running on your system.
- Visit the official GitHub page and download the latest version by selecting DQ3Fix_v0.0.2.zip from the Assets section.
- Extract the downloaded zip file into the directory where Dragon Quest 3 Remake is installed:
steamapps\common\DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake
Upon completion, launch the game; it will now properly support any aspect ratio. The patch ensures that the HUD is centered and the field of view (FOV) is accurate, regardless of your selected resolution. Below, you can see an example of the game running in ultrawide mode after applying the patch:
Special thanks to Lyall for creating and testing this valuable tool.
Uninstalling the Patch
If you ever decide to remove the patch, simply delete the files from the zip or disable the feature in the DQ3Fix.ini configuration file.
This patch not only enables ultrawide support but also lifts the 60 FPS cap, skips intro logos, and grants access to console commands for enhanced customization using Unreal Engine’s typical commands.
While we may not see native ultrawide support from developers in the immediate future, it is hoped that upcoming Square Enix titles will consider compatibility with this expanding widescreen format.
