Pujan ‘FNS’ Mehta has stated that, in his prediction, Sentinels will not advance beyond the group stage at the 2024 Valorant Champions. During a co-stream, he analyzed the team’s challenges and explained why he believes they will struggle to recover at the event.
Despite entering the Valorant World Championships with little momentum, Sentinels had suffered two consecutive losses leading up to the event. In their first group stage match against Gen.G, the North American team was defeated 2-0, setting them up for a lower bracket match against FunPlus Phoenix on August 8th.
FNS, from NRG Esports, has confidently stated that Sentinels will not make a significant impact at this particular event. He elaborated on his thoughts during a co-stream of the tournament on August 2nd.
“According to the speaker, the highs that Sentinels experienced earlier this year were the most exhilarating, producing an amazing feeling. However, the lows they have faced in the past 2-3 months have been truly devastating and have the power to mentally shatter a person.”
Despite being the VCT Masters Reykjavík champion, he expressed doubt that the team will be able to overcome their current slump in 2024 or at the upcoming Valorant Champions event.
FNS also addressed fans who were attributing Sentinels’ struggles to coaching, after someone in his chat asked for his thoughts on the team’s head coach stating that players simply needed to focus more after losses.
“FNS pointed out that the team was being overly criticized due to their current losing streak. He also noted that if they were winning, the repetition of Kaplan’s words would not be a concern.”
“Some may argue that the reason for their losses is due to your absence, but it is more likely that their poor performance is simply a result of their current form. There are numerous aspects of the Sentinels’ play that are likely contributing factors, contrary to popular belief.”
The Sentinels began the year with a victory at the VCT Americas Kickoff tournament and used that success to secure a Masters Madrid trophy. However, the team was unable to participate in Masters Shanghai after achieving a 2-3 record in VCT Americas Stage 1.
Despite a slight rebound in Stage 2 with a 3-1 record, the Sentinels still needed other teams to perform poorly in the playoff stage in order to secure a spot in Valorant Champions.
In addition to preparing for the tournament, the Sentinels also addressed matters beyond the server, such as being voted the “most overrated”team at the World Championship by a group of 100 VCT professionals.
It is uncertain if Sentinels will falter in the Valorant Champions, however, the team appears to lack any positive momentum as they approach their elimination match against FPX.
