Former Idol Reveals Shocking Reality Of Music Shows, “Cost 20 Million Won, Getting Paid 50,000 Won”

Do Han-se recently joined the paid communication app Bubble to interact with fans and reveal exclusive behind-the-scenes details of idols’ appearances on music shows. He expressed his love for music shows, stating that performing on them is a wonderful experience, but unfortunately, it is not financially feasible for him.

Do Han-se explained that performing on music shows, like second-generation senior groups, did not have much promotional effect and cost around 10 million won for a week. The fee for appearing on music shows was approximately 50,000 won, although he was unsure if it had increased in recent times. At that time, each group would receive 50,000 won for one music show.

The speaker went on to discuss the expenses associated with appearing on music programs. He emphasized the importance of looking cool during a comeback, which requires investing in stage design, hair and makeup, styling, and providing food and drinks for on-site staff. These costs can add up to 20 million won, which the speaker noted are considered debts that idols must pay. As a result, only a select few teams are able to afford the expenses, making it feel like a game. The cost of performing on music shows for just one or two weeks is equivalent to producing another music video.

Do Han-se stated, “While this is not something I feel obligated to address, I understand many of you are curious. I am frequently asked to perform on music shows whenever I release a new song, which is why I feel the need to explain why I do not participate in those performances.”

Finally, he stated that only a few groups receive payment, and they should be the headliners or top artists on festival lineups. Additionally, they should not only be popular among K-pop fans, but also among the general public. Otherwise, idols may end up accumulating more debts and terminating their contracts before completing the full seven years without making any profit. It would be considered fortunate to terminate the contract midway without any financial gain or successfully completing the full seven years.

Han-se’s comments are receiving a lot of interest from fans of K-pop idol groups.

Do Han-se debuted as a member of VICTION in 2016. After their contract expired in April of last year, the group disbanded and Do Han-se began promoting as a solo singer. Last year, he released “Gummy Bear”in October, followed by “How Time Flies”in March and “Scent of Skin”in April. Most recently, he collaborated with Lee Dong-yeol on the song “Burn It Down.”
