During a live broadcast, this third-generation idol showed frustration when fans referred to him as “husband,”resulting in criticism towards him. Is he the one at fault in this situation?
Former EXO member Tao received a lot of attention and feedback for offering practical advice to his fans, as seen in a recent article.
He recently engaged with his fans through a live stream on his Weibo account. During the stream, he interacted with viewers and noticed that some were referring to him as “husband”in the comments.
Despite many idols being willing to engage in fanservice, Tao rejected the idea of having a fake relationship with fans and bluntly declared:
“Didn’t I already shatter your fantasies a long time ago? You keep fantasizing. You keep saying ‘husband, husband’ all day long and you can’t even hold (my) hands… ‘husband’? It’s really funny. Don’t have such fantasies and live your own lives properly.”
After Tao’s live broadcast, a clip of his statement began circulating within the Chinese and Korean communities, garnering more than 7,000 comments.
Surprisingly, the debate attracted even those who were not fans, with the majority expressing negative opinions about him and labeling him as “ungrateful”and “inconsiderate.”
Despite his controversies, netizens continue to show their support and sympathy to his fandom, making it clear that they are frustrated with the way he treated his fans who have stood by him wholeheartedly.
Below are the comments that were provided:
- “Does he have had any other achievements besides dating in the past few years while he’s been in the entertainment industry?”
- “Who cares about you?”
- “If there are fans who still like him, they must be really die-hard fans, how can he say something like that?”
- “Don’t get mad at fans’ joking comments, they’re really funny.”
In the meantime, others are defending him by explaining that he has the right to establish boundaries between idols and fans, particularly if the fans have crossed the line.
Tao has faced hateful comments in the past for being open and setting boundaries with fans, and this is not the first time.
Over the course of four years, Tao has been repeatedly linked to Xu Yiyang, a fellow C-pop artist signed to the same label. The two initially crossed paths as SM Entertainment artists in South Korea, and have since been seen together multiple times in China, sparking speculation about their relationship.
Despite these rumors, the two individuals involved never released an official statement addressing them. Fans expressed their frustration over Tao’s refusal to confirm or deny the speculation, but the male idol made it clear that it is not his duty to disclose information about his personal relationships. He also stated that he cannot be pressured into admitting anything about his dating life.
