The recent interaction between former LOONA member Yves and a fan has ignited a discussion among Korean netizens, as they debate who was at fault in the situation.
On June 4, 2024, Instiz, a popular South Korean online community forum, uploaded a post titled “The conversation between a fan and the idol that is currently gaining attention.”The original poster shared screenshots from a fan communication platform, where Yves responded to a fan and subscriber.
Yves received a message from a fan stating, “That’s not something idols should wear.”
The idol responded, “What do you mean by ‘Not an outfit idols should wear’? What makes an outfit suitable for idols?”She further stated, “As an idol, any outfit I wear automatically becomes an idol’s outfit. Is this causing harm to anyone?”
Despite saying she was not offended by the message, she warned that if they tried to argue with her, she would block them.
The conversation between Yves and the fan occurred in February, but has recently caught the attention of Korean netizens. It was revealed that the fan’s dislike was directed towards a shark hoodie from BAPE, valued at $500. This particular item is highly sought after in streetwear and hype beast communities, and has even been worn by celebrities such as Ariana Grande and Drake.

Despite mixed opinions, Korean netizens were divided over the situation. While some argued that the fan was being rude by interfering with Yves’ choice of clothing, others questioned why the fan even had an issue with her modest outfit. After all, Yves was fully covered and had no reason to be criticized.
Despite expectations for Yves to wear something controversial, people now believe the fan made a big deal out of nothing upon discovering it was just a hoodie.
However, there are those who argue that Yves may have exaggerated the situation and should not have engaged with the fan. They assert that she went too far and should have just let it go.
Several comments stated,
- “It’s not like Yves was going around wearing a bikini. So who cares?”
- “It must be such a pain to be an idol. Imagine someone nitpicking your outfits.”
- “I think they were both rude. The fan’s message was problematic, but Yves took it a little too far with her response.”
- “The fan is the one who is rude. I don’t understand why they are meddling about what she wears.”
- “She should have just let it slide.”
- “This is 100% the fan’s fault. Why do they have an issue with what idols wear?”
- “The fan was the one who was rude.”
