Park Eun-sik Expresses Support for IU Amid Political Controversy

On December 22, former committee member Park Eun-sik took to his personal social media to express his distress regarding IU’s support for the recent pro-impeachment rally, stating, “I was genuinely saddened to see the news that IU supported the pro-impeachment rally.”

Park shared his admiration for IU’s talent, recalling her early performances: “From the time she sang ‘Boo’ and ‘Marshmallow’, I recognized her potential. I vividly remember her appearance on ‘Infinite Challenge’, where she sang ‘Naengmyeon’ after Jessica from Girls’ Generation could not perform. Despite Park Myung-soo’s dismissive comment, ‘Who is she? Bring Jessica back’, IU persevered through the adversity and continued to shine. Her determination only made me support her more.”

Reflecting on IU’s career milestones, Park stated, “When she hit those remarkable high notes in ‘Good Day’, I felt a surge of excitement, realizing IU was on the rise. Her journey into songwriting and her recognition as a genuine artist filled me with pride. Watching her remarkable performance in ‘My Mister’ was nothing short of inspiring. I still cherish the emotional resonance of hearing ‘Through the Night’ for the first time during my military service.” He expressed concern over the backlash from some conservative individuals calling for a boycott, hoping for a more understanding approach: “She has never explicitly shown a political inclination before.”

In a heartfelt conclusion, Park conveyed, “The conservative side should strive to become a more attractive option that can earn the support of gifted artists like IU. Just as notable figures like Kanye West publicly supported Trump and the Republican Party, the People Power Party needs to passionately engage the populace, much like IU has done in her career.”

Days earlier, on December 13, IU made headlines by prepaying for meals offered to fans attending the impeachment rally in Yeouido, Seoul. Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, highlighted, “In the harsh winter, we aimed to bring warmth to the hands of UAENA (IU’s fandom), who illuminated the rally with their light sticks, by providing food and hot packs.” The thoughtful gifts included an array of comforting options such as bread, beverages, rice soup, beef bone soup, and rice cakes.
