Former Rockstar Developer Alerts Players of Possible GTA 6 Delay

A former Rockstar Games veteran of 14 years has shared insights on why the release of GTA 6 may still face delays, urging fans not to get their hopes up.

After years of uncertainty, the official announcement of GTA 6 shattered three world records, and the debut trailer captivated millions of fans eager for a glimpse of the highly anticipated sequel.

It has now been over a decade since the last installment in the open-world series, making the wait excruciating for dedicated fans. Although Rockstar has confirmed a 2025 release in the initial trailer and reiterated this in investor calls, recent rumors suggest that a delay might be possible.

While these rumors remain unverified and credible sources have yet to provide substantial information, the discussion has sparked considerable chatter on social media. Contributing to the conversation is former Rockstar Games employee Obbe Vermeij, who has extensive experience working on iconic GTA titles.

Joining Rockstar in 1995, Vermeij has valuable experience in launching successful titles, including GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. His insights regarding the potential for a GTA 6 delay are noteworthy.

Vermeij noted that project schedules often shift as the release date approaches, stating that it may be premature to determine whether GTA 6 will meet its 2025 target. He cited his experience with GTA 4, explaining, “The decision to delay GTA 4 was made four months or so before the original release date. Any further and it’s hard to make the call.”

“Rockstar is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish,” Vermeij added.

Despite over ten years having passed since the last release, and having seen various early gameplay leaks and marketing efforts, Vermeij believes it is still early to make a definitive call on the release timeline.

Considering the scale of GTA 6, which is expected to feature a vast open world packed with activities and intricate gameplay systems, achieving Rockstar’s high-quality standards is no simple task. If challenges arise in development leading up to May 2025, Vermeij indicates that a delay to 2026 could be on the table.

At this point, such assessments are speculative. Only those within Rockstar know how development is progressing as the launch date approaches. Fans should stay alert for any unexpected updates, as Rockstar tends to keep its community engaged with surprises.
