The Reason His Mother Cried
While attending a technical high school and specializing in electronics, Jung Hyung-don landed a position at Samsung Electronics, one of the leading companies in Korea. However, after observing the lives of his seniors at the job, he realized that their lifestyle did not align with his envisioned future.
Determined to forge his own path, Jung Hyung-don decided to resign. However, when he shared his plans with his seniors, they dismissed his aspirations, saying, “Not just anyone can become a comedian.” This response only fueled his determination to pursue his dream.
He still recalls the overwhelming relief he felt after resigning from Samsung after six years and six months, yet he admitted that he struggled to inform his parents, who were incredibly proud of his prestigious job at the company.
Later, during a hospital visit due to an accident involving his mother, who fell while working at an orchard, the family received unexpected news.
At that moment, since his parents’ health insurance was under Jung Hyung-don’s name, the doctor informed them, “It appears your son is no longer employed at his previous job, so you should check into it.”
Jung Hyung-don vividly remembers his mother asking, “Did you quit your job?” He admitted to her that he had left Samsung to chase his dream of becoming a comedian, now working at a theater company in Daehakro.
He recalled, “I remember my mother bursting into tears when she heard the news. She sobbed uncontrollably, and I didn’t hear any kind words from her.”
At just 24 years old, Jung Hyung-don was not fearful; he was exhilarated at the prospect of chasing his dream. He took on various odd jobs, including cleaning and promoting, while attending performances daily. Ultimately, he realized his dream by making his debut in 2002.
