Former T-ara Member Areum Accused of Failing to Repay Fans, Sent to Prosecution on 37 Million Won Fraud Charges

According to the entertainment industry, Areum was sent to the prosecution without detention at the end of last month on charges of fraud, as announced by the Gwangmyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 12th.

Areum is being accused of borrowing around 37 million won from three people she knows, including her fans, and not fulfilling her obligation to return the borrowed amount.

The victims filed complaints with the police from March to May, claiming that Areum had borrowed money under the pretext of personal reasons involving her boyfriend, but has yet to repay it.

During the police investigation, it was discovered that Areum’s former partner, Mr. A, had also extorted money from the victims. He was subsequently handed over to the prosecution. Areum largely confessed to the charges, while Mr. A denied them.

In 2012, Areum became a member of the girl group T-ara but departed from the group in 2013.

Despite making waves in the entertainment world with her simultaneous divorce and remarriage announcement last December, she was later accused of defrauding her then-boyfriend Mr. A of over 40 million won. She maintained that the incident was the result of being hacked. While also claiming to be expecting a child with her boyfriend, she recently disclosed their split.
