Former T-ARA Member Areum in Hot Water Over Child Abuse Allegations

The K-pop idol Lee Areum, formerly a member of T-ara, and her mother have been accused of child abuse, adding to the numerous legal issues they are facing. Dispatch reported that they have also been issued a temporary restraining order preventing them from having contact with their children.

The case against Areum and her mother is a result of a series of allegations and inquiries. Prior to this, Areum had accused her former spouse, referred to as Mr. A, of committing child abuse.

Areum made accusations that Mr. A had thrown an infant from a bed and physically abused their five-year-old child. She asserted that he would use the children as a means of releasing his anger, even going as far as to urinate and defecate on their faces. However, after conducting a thorough investigation, the police found no evidence to support these grave allegations.

On May 8, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office dropped the charges against Mr. A due to insufficient evidence. The prosecution cited a lack of credibility in the children’s testimonies, which was believed to have been influenced by Areum according to experts.

Last month, Areum and her mother were charged by the Gwangmyeong Police Station with child abuse, neglect, and child abduction, in a surprising turn of events. As a result, they have both been temporarily prohibited from being within 100 meters of the children’s residence and daycare until July 21.

Despite her personal life controversies, Areum’s legal troubles have only added to her challenges. She was previously married to Mr. A and has two sons with him, but they divorced in December of last year. After their divorce, she announced her remarriage to Mr. Seo. However, their relationship was short-lived as Areum faced accusations of defrauding fans and acquaintances of over 40 million won with Mr. Seo, causing them to separate in April.

The allegations against Areum have caused a ripple of shock among her fans and the wider community. Numerous supporters took to social media to voice their surprise and dismay, with some demanding a comprehensive investigation to safeguard the welfare of the children involved.

In the midst of this, Areum, a former member of T-ARA, is facing backlash as she is accused of fabricating a suicide attempt and blackmailing money from her fans.

In a video, YouTuber Lee Jinho, who is well-known for sharing insider entertainment news, alleged that Areum’s hospitalization was not genuine and that she and her boyfriend took advantage of fans’ sympathy to borrow money, using her children as a means to do so.

Reportedly, at least ten individuals have allegedly fallen victim to fraud, resulting in a total estimated loss of 43.95 million KRW (32.08k USD). However, only a fraction of the amount has been reimbursed. Areum initially denied the allegations through a now-deleted Instagram story, claiming that her account had been hacked and accusing the YouTuber of disseminating misinformation.
