Fortnite’s recent Godzilla update has certainly stirred the pot, notably with significant changes to the Shining Span point of interest (POI). However, players are expressing their discontent regarding modifications made to the Emote Wheel.
The Emote Wheel has long been a vital component of the Fortnite experience, allowing players to showcase their personalities through various emotes, such as the iconic Take the L and The Griddy. It serves not just as a playful means of self-expression but also as a way to celebrate victories or taunt opponents. Unfortunately, the latest adjustments following the Godzilla update have left many fans feeling less than thrilled.
Emote Wheel Evolution: A Timeline
Over the years, the Emote Wheel has undergone numerous iterations. Initially, players could quickly access six emotes, but with the game’s evolution, customization options expanded, offering slots for character-specific animations. The mechanics of activation also transformed; players switched from pressing the “B” key on PC to utilizing the D-pad on consoles.
In 2024, a “hold and release” selection system was introduced, which, while innovative, failed to win universal approval. Recent updates even integrated the Emote Wheel with weapon selection. However, it was the changes introduced on January 14 that truly frustrated the fanbase.
Players took to Reddit to voice their annoyance, with one user lamenting, “Why won’t they just do it clockwise? I swear they used every option except the only logical one.” Another emphasized their irritation by stating, “My god, they change that shi* every month, so annoying.” A lighter take came from a player who joked, “Oh good, I thought I messed up my presets or something lol, glad it wasn’t me.”
Moreover, the backlash isn’t confined to the Emote Wheel. The newly updated Quest UI has also garnered mixed reviews. While some users commend its fresh appearance, others seem to question its efficiency. As one player succinctly put it, “This and the quest tab suck now.”
Despite these user interface concerns, Fortnite continues to impress with its acclaimed skins feature, including the recent introduction of Hatsune Miku. Yet, amidst the excitement of new skins, the ongoing changes to the UI may be testing the limits of players’ patience.
