Recently, Fortnite enthusiasts have been buzzing with excitement following the leak of preview footage showcasing a long-speculated smart building feature, reportedly under development by Epic Games for quite some time.
The concept of smart building first gained traction in June 2021 when dataminers uncovered references to new placeable structures in Fortnite patch 17.10. This discovery hinted at the possibility of players placing pre-fabricated elements such as boxes, bridges, staircases, and towers at the push of a button—essentially transforming the way players construct in-game.
Fast forward to November 2024, mentions of this feature emerged again within files related to a Fortnite Remix update. Now that Chapter 6 Season 1 is in full swing, leaks of the incomplete smart building feature have surfaced online.
A Glimpse into Smart Building Mechanics
Notable leaker osirion_gg, in collaboration with Loolo_WRLD, has released thrilling footage of the nascent smart build feature. As per earlier reports, this feature allows players to create prefabricated structures gradually. The leaked video illustrates a player effortlessly placing segments to construct a ramp using these pre-made designs with minimal button inputs.
Following the initial reveal, Loolo_WRLD reiterated, “This feature is currently unfinished and it COULD change once released.”

As of now, Epic Games has not officially confirmed the introduction of smart building in Fortnite, and the timeline for its in-game debut remains uncertain. However, should this feature see the light of day, it could revolutionize gameplay dynamics, especially for newcomers and those players who prefer a more straightforward building experience while engaging in battle royale.
Concerns have arisen within the community, particularly among seasoned Fortnite builders, about whether the introduction of smart building could deter new players from learning the intricacies of building. Conversely, some players argue that with the existing options of Build and Zero Build modes, launching a simplified building feature might be an overdue innovation.
