A recent analysis of Fortnite’s OG mode has uncovered a surprising trend: bot players dominate the matchmaking landscape. This revelation raises important questions about game balance and player experience.
Epic Games first integrated bots into the game during Chapter 2 with the aim of filling lobbies, thereby supporting new players and creating a leveled competitive environment. These bots operate at a basic skill level, imitating novice players by engaging in fundamental actions such as shooting, building, and scavenging for items. Observing their stiff movements and erratic play—like missing shots frequently or aimlessly abandoning loot—can help identify them.
Yet, the presence of bots is not universally welcomed. Many competitive gamers find them frustrating due to their predictable patterns and tendency to disrupt gameplay in high-stakes matches. Nevertheless, within the community, there’s a growing acceptance of encountering bots in non-ranked games.
You Haven’t ‘Gotten Good’; You’re Just Facing Bots

The findings have sent shockwaves through the Fortnite community, with reactions ranging from disbelief to concern. Players speculated that many might be drawn to ranked matchmaking, leaving OG matches filled primarily with bots. Given the recent surge in player numbers across both ranked and unranked modes, many deem the situation unusual and likely indicative of a glitch.
However, AllyJax reassured players that ranked OG matches maintain “100% human”lobbies, in stark contrast to regular Battle Royale sessions, where an average of 40 human players compete.
Some players have since replicated AllyJax’s study, validating the findings using a Discord bot from The Dub server. Interested players can participate in these tests by joining the community.
As of now, Epic Games has yet to respond to the accuracy of these findings or clarify whether such bot-heavy matchmaking is a glitch or a deliberate choice. Despite growing player numbers, the heavy reliance on bots in OG matches raises critical concerns regarding the integrity of the game and player experience.
