The latest season of Fortnite has recently debuted, yet players are already experiencing frustration when facing off against a newly added weapon in the game.
A staple of Fortnite is the regularly changing loot pool each season, with the addition of fresh weapons and items and the removal of older ones. The current season’s theme also brings the opportunity for players to acquire a variety of Marvel weapons.
The latest season of the game introduced Captain America’s Shield as one of the new Marvel weapons. However, players on a Reddit thread are already calling for it to be nerfed less than 24 hours after the season’s launch.
Under the title “Shield Charge? Tell me more,”a user shared a comparison image of the Ballistic Shield from Chapter 5, Season 1 and Captain America’s Shield, captioned with “2024: The year it died and was reborn. Welcome back, Ballistic Shield.”

Players in the comments have expressed frustration with Captain America’s Shield, citing its high damage output and ability to block incoming attacks as the main reasons.
“A user shared, “I have played five games in this chapter and unfortunately, I lost four of them to this obstacle. In one game, an opponent was hiding behind it, making it difficult for me to hit them. I could see their head but couldn’t land any shots. I am at a loss, what am I supposed to do?”
In contrast, another player stated that the shield was the only aspect that needed to be nerfed this season. They elaborated, explaining that while everything else was manageable, the shield could be easily spammed to quickly defeat opponents.
“Another user asked if the game was playtested to ensure that overpowered items are not released. They also mentioned that in a one-on-one situation with two players having the shield, the game can become unbalanced.”
One individual chimed in, stating that despite people’s quick complaints, the truth remains that the captain’s shield is extremely overpowered. It can withstand almost any damage and the range and damage output are ridiculous.
A commenter suggested that Epic should nerf its range and auto-aim. Fortnite is known for implementing hotfixes and balance adjustments occasionally, so it remains to be seen if any changes will be made to Captain America’s Shield.
