Fortnite Reintroduces Top Competitive Mechanic After More Than a Year

Fortnite is bringing back a beloved gameplay feature for the 2025 competitive season after a significant hiatus in the Battle Royale lobbies.

The FNCS 2024 competitive season wrapped up in Texas, where ‘Pollo’ and ‘Peterbot’ were celebrated as Global Champs. They shared in the impressive $2,002,000 prize pool and took home a prestigious gold trophy.

This year’s FNCS featured Duos matches across multiple majors, showcasing noticeable shifts in loot pool and gameplay mechanics throughout various seasons in Chapter 5 of Fortnite.

However, competitive play did not experience drastic changes compared to the 2023 pro season; OP mythics remained vaulted, gameplay was balanced, and matches felt reminiscent of the previous year.

Following the tournament, Epic Games announced plans for the 2025 season, featuring an increased prize pool of $8,000,000 and a switch from Duos to Trios mode. The most exciting revelation for players was the confirmed return of Siphon.

Siphon will return for the 2025 season, initially through a set of tournaments known as Siphon Trials in various formats. This means that after thorough testing, Epic will decide whether to implement it into FNCS.

For those unfamiliar, Siphon rewards players with health and shield for each elimination, mirroring the mechanics of the Doombot Medallion from this season.

While many players view this decision as a “massive W,” there are some expressing concerns about its counterplay to elements like Storm Surge. One player noted, “But we need to change Surge or else it’s gonna be bad and unhealthy.”

Another commented, “Imagine you get 25 health for knocking someone and an additional 25 for finishing them.” In addition to the mixed reactions, players have been actively requesting the addition of a Zero Build tournament for FNCS 2025.

It will undoubtedly be thrilling to witness the return of Siphon in the competitive landscape for 2025, as many hope it will also feature in Ranked mode alongside the traditional Trial tournaments.
