“The popularity of Fortnite Reload is declining rapidly, causing a significant decrease in the game’s player count. In fact, the current player count is the lowest it has been in the past year, leading many players to turn away from the battle royale genre.”
The original Fortnite-inspired mode remains the most popular, surpassing all other game modes in terms of player count. However, there has been a gradual decline in player interest in the Battle Royale mode. In March 2023, the game’s player numbers were made public for the first time and it was recorded that the Battle Royale mode had reached an all-time low of only 188,000 players.
Despite sounding impressive, the player count of just over 150,000 is concerning when compared to the average daily player count for Battle Royale. On its best days, Battle Royale can attract up to 500,000 players, but it usually maintains a minimum of 200,000 players.
Despite the introduction of Fortnite Reload and the inclusion of duo queue, it is clear that the Fortnite player base still has a strong preference. By bringing back old-school weapons and locations, Fortnite Reload is successfully recapturing the glory days of Chapter 1 and 2.

Upon discovering the decrease in player count for Battle Royale, the X gaming community wasted no time in expressing their thoughts. Fortnite players remain unconvinced that the standard BR mode is being neglected solely because of the mandatory Reload mode.
According to one commenter, Reload is a refreshing change that combines fast-paced gameplay with the original Fortnite charm. While regular BR was enjoyable at the beginning of the season, it has since been heavily nerfed and has lost its appeal.
Several other comments also mentioned the adjustments that Fortnite implemented to create a more balanced Season 3. The use of vehicle mods introduced new ways to counter opponents, such as Nitro Fists and Boogie Bombs. However, as the season approaches its midpoint, player enthusiasm appears to be waning.
