As the file size of Fortnite steadily increases with each update, Epic Games is taking steps to optimize it for the next season. Leakers have indicated that this effort may be particularly linked to a new feature.
Since its inception in 2017, Fortnite has evolved from a simple Battle Royale game with building elements into a diverse ecosystem of game modes, including LEGO, Festival, and Rocket Racing experiences.
Although these expansions and the numerous events and collaborations are undoubtedly entertaining, one significant drawback is the continuous growth of the game’s size with every update.
The game has reportedly swelled to such an extent that Epic is recognizing the storage challenges faced by Nintendo Switch players when attempting to download updates. This insight was shared by FortniteStatus in a post on X, which also included a link to Trello for players seeking solutions to the issue.
We are aware that Nintendo Switch players without SD cards can encounter issues with storage space when downloading Fortnite patches. We’re working on reducing the game’s size for the upcoming season. In the meantime, you can follow the steps from the Trello card here:… pic.twitter.com/39i95usGzy

The announcement specifically noted that Epic is committed to “reducing the game’s size for the upcoming season.” Leakers suggest this initiative may be linked to a feature known as the “Thin Client.”
Renowned leaker ShiinaBR revealed that this feature allows players to only download the content they actually need.
Moreover, fellow leaker HYPEX elaborated that this will mean players can initially download just the Lobby— which includes the Shop, Locker, and skins— and then select the specific modes they wish to install, whether that be Battle Royale, Rocket Racing, Creative Modes, or others.
Although the initial notice from Fortnite highlighted this initiative following concerns from Nintendo Switch users, leaks indicate that the Thin Client feature is expected to roll out across all platforms.
Fortnite “Thin Client”Info – Expected NEXT SEASON ‼️• The Game’s size will be WAY smaller• You’ll only download The Lobby (Shop, Locker, Skins, etc..)• Then you can choose to download each mode separately (BR, STW, Rocket Racing, Festival, LEGO & Creative Modes etc..) pic.twitter.com/4IhVAtMnvZ

In response to this news, many gamers expressed their approval that Epic is finally making these changes. One player said, “Thank goodness I can finally delete the metaverse modes,” while another remarked, “That is a major W; we really didn’t need all of the modes downloaded if we only play one.”
“They should’ve implemented this from the start, but better late than never. Such a massive win,” a user noted.
The Fortnitemares event has already been integrated into the game as part of Chapter 5, Season 4; however, anticipation is building for the upcoming season. For those interested, here’s a comprehensive look at what it might entail.
