Fortnite Unveils Exciting New Feature for OG Reload

Fortnite’s Reload mode is set to receive a highly anticipated feature in an upcoming hotfix that players have long requested. This update will also initiate a significant change in matchmaking lobbies and the competitive gaming landscape.

Upon its launch, Fortnite users responded enthusiastically to the game’s latest Reload mode, which brings back memories of the original Battle Royale days with the Chapter 1 map. This fast-paced 40-player mode offers a respawn-style combat experience in a mini-BR format, where the objective is to be the last team standing.

Since the mode’s debut, players have called for more than just iconic Points of Interest (POIs) and classic weapons, such as the Pump Shotgun, in the loot pool; specifically, they wanted competitive Ranked lobbies. Currently, only the ongoing season’s Battle Royale and Zero Build modes offer Ranked lobbies where players can climb the ranks and participate in tournaments.

Epic Games has now officially announced the introduction of Ranked Reload lobbies. These lobbies will be integrated into the game mode through a hotfix scheduled for September 24, allowing Fortnite players to engage in competitive matches on the nostalgic OG Reload island, complete with the Chapter 1 loot pool.

Players eagerly awaiting the addition of competitive lobbies in Reload mode have expressed their excitement about this new feature. One player noted: “FORTNITE IS LOCKING IN.” Another commented, “Oh snap! This will be super sweaty and crowded.”

Furthermore, a third user remarked, “Even more AIs in the normal playlist incoming.” While many in the community have requested that Epic reintroduce the OG meta, such as the Double Pump, for Ranked Reload, this seems quite unlikely to occur.

In addition to the new feature, Epic is rewarding players with a free skin for engaging in Ranked Reload, earning points, and achieving a specific rank. They have also organized the first Reload Cup event on September 22, 2024, at TwitchCon, where players Zemie and Crackly took home a $5,000 prize.

Fortnite enthusiasts can expect to see more tournaments focused on this dedicated OG game mode, whether at special events like TwitchCon or weekly in-game cash cups. It will be intriguing to observe a Reload tournament within the FNCS 2025 season, along with the structure and overall prize pool involved.
