Fortnite players have recently noticed that Gwenpool’s cel-shaded skin has undergone a subtle change after a recent update, and this alteration has sparked some discontent among the community.
Since the early days, Marvel collaborations have been a staple in Fortnite. Now, in Chapter 5, Season 4, players are enjoying a season fully dedicated to Marvel, providing an exciting opportunity to obtain a variety of new cosmetics inspired by the franchise through the Battle Pass.
One of the standout new cosmetic additions is Gwenpool, a character well-known for her knack for breaking the fourth wall. For a considerable time, she has been presented in a distinctive cel-shaded style that features an outlined look within Fortnite.
However, players have recently observed that her appearance has been altered post-update. As highlighted by a user in a Reddit thread, the skin now displays less pronounced outlines.

Previously, there was a bug that caused the lines on cel-shaded skins to vanish, leaving players unsure if this is merely a recurring bug or an “intentional change.” One user speculated that the alteration was deliberate, linking Gwenpool’s latest look to her depiction in ‘The Unbelievable Gwenpool’ comic illustrated by Gurihiru. They pointed out that the comic’s style predominantly features thicker outlines around character silhouettes, with considerably thinner lines for intricate details within those shapes — suggesting that this could be a factor in the updated visual.
Although Epic Games has yet to address this issue publicly, a significant portion of players has already expressed their dissatisfaction in the comments.
One comment read, “Honestly, it looks worse, in my opinion. The second style now appears hardly different from the third, too.”
Another user noted, “I do not appreciate that. The thickness added to the aesthetic of the cel-shaded appearance.”
Interestingly, a different player claimed that the previous design “looked like TV,” while the updated version with the less pronounced lines resembled “anime.”
Despite the criticisms, a few players are not bothered by the change, with some referencing the style showcased in The Unbelievable Gwenpool comic as a positive comparison.
