Fortnite: Why the New Black Panther Claws Are Ineffective in the Current Meta

Despite Shuri’s Black Panther Claws making players feel heroic, many Fortnite enthusiasts believe that this mythic weapon falls short in the current meta.

The Battle Royale’s 31.10 update introduced Shuri’s Black Panther Claws, adding to the list of Marvel-themed mythics which includes Captain America’s Shield and War Machine’s Arsenal.

After a week of gameplay, it’s become clear that those who opt for this weapon often meet a quick demise.

This viewpoint was humorously shared in a meme on the Fortnite subreddit, sparking discussions about the claws being ineffective, despite the cool factor of using them.

The primary drawback of Shuri’s Claws lies in their melee nature.

With the introduction of the Sovereign Shotgun this season, alongside other effective close to medium-range firearms, attempting to engage enemies with claws is risky—they can take you out in just a few shots.

Shotguns are lethal in close encounters, and facing an opponent armed with one can prove disastrous. “[I]t’s just not a great time to add a new melee weapon,” one user remarked.

Furthermore, the popularity of the War Machine Hover Jets compounds the issue. They are essential for succeeding in the endgame, and without them, players struggle against agile opponents soaring through the air.

Relying on Shuri’s Claws doesn’t allow for effective engagement against flying enemies, making them advantageous only during the early stages of a match.

“They are nice in close quarters right after dropping into a hot-zone. After that, pretty useless,” stated one player.

While the latest update introduced an impractical melee option, the Ultra Doom mythic has been energizing matches. However, players find it challenging to acquire.
