Fortnite’s Removal of Greek Mythics in Avatar Update Causes Backlash

The latest Avatar update from Fortnite has sparked criticism from players due to their choice to remove Greek-themed mythic weapons.

The first major crossover between Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 and Avatar: The Last Airbender was introduced last week. The game now features a new questline, mini-pass, skins, and mythic weapons inspired by the elements of Avatar.

Despite the introduction of four new mythic items, Epic has announced the temporary removal of the Greek-themed mythic weapons from the game until the collaboration event concludes on May 3rd. This includes the vaulting of three items – Chains of Hades, Wings of Icarus, and Thunderbolt of Zeus – which were initially released at the start of the season.

After Epic announced the vaulting of these items, several players expressed their frustration. One player stated, “It seems like Epic is intentionally trying to anger people now.”Another player added, “They could have at least kept the wings for movement.”

One individual added, “I hope the Avatar mythics will prove to be valuable enough to justify spending on them.”Despite this, a number of others expressed their support for Epic’s choice and remarked, “The first Epic W since Chapter 5? That’s insane. It took them 4 months to achieve.”

Another responded, “That’s logical. Given that there are already multiple bending types in the game, adding more would certainly make it more complicated to manage.”

Despite the disappointment of players, it is logical for Epic to vault these items as the Bending Mythics can serve as suitable substitutes for each. For example, the Airbending, which serves a similar purpose to the Wings of Icarus, has effectively replaced them.

Firebending is the ideal alternative for the Chains of Hades, as it inflicts rapid fire damage to enemies and has a powerful slam attack that can damage a larger area.

In terms of the Thunderbolt of Zeus, Waterbending is a suitable alternative as it is currently considered the most powerful Avatar mythic in the game, thanks to its long-range damage-dealing capability.

The loot pool in the Battle Royale has always been a focus for Epic, as they continuously strive to improve weapon balance. Currently, they are making significant changes to the loot pool in preparation for the FNCS 2024 season and playoffs, which are currently in progress.
