Fortnite’s soft Reputation After Adding Feature to Block Confrontational Emotes

Fortnite is introducing a new feature that gives players the option to turn off “confrontational emotes,”a decision that has been deemed “gentle”by certain members of the gaming community.

Ever since joining forces with LEGO at the end of 2023, Fortnite has been working towards creating a more family-friendly gaming experience. As a part of this effort, they have restricted certain cosmetics from being used in game modes and creator maps.

The upcoming April 23 update will take an additional measure by restricting which emotes are considered as “confrontational.”

On April 22, the official Fortnite Twitter/X announced that they will be introducing a new Confrontational Emotes setting in tomorrow’s update. This setting will allow players to toggle the visibility of certain Emotes, such as (cough Take the L cough), which can sometimes give off a confrontational vibe. Our intention is for Emotes to spread good vibes, and we hope this new setting will help achieve that.

This feature is designed to hide emotes such as “Laugh It Up”, “Take the L”, “Whipcrack”, and “Make It Plantain”when enabled.

The community has already begun expressing their opinions on the latest update, with most of the fan base referring to the decision as “weak.”

“PeQu, the creator of Fortnite, questioned the purpose of offending anyone with emotes and stated, “What’s the point?”in a tweet.

“Former Fortnite streamer CourageJD chimed in, saying, “LMAO we are in big trouble.”

Fortnite clarifies that this setting does not restrict players from using any emotes, unlike the changes made to cosmetics, which restrict their usage in certain modes.

Nevertheless, for individuals interested in activating this function following the update tomorrow, it can be accessed through the social privacy preferences. There will be three toggle choices: never, from friends in a group, and from anyone.
