Chapter 135: Wehrlos Finds Himself Indebted to Sein

The chapter kicks off with Wehrlos approaching Clematis for assistance in saving an injured cat. Unfortunately, Clematis reveals that the cat’s condition is beyond repair and suggests prayer as the only hope for its salvation. Wehrlos, however, declines the idea, asserting that the creature will simply return to nothingness after death and has no need for salvation; he then departs with the cat.

Just then, Sein unexpectedly arrives and discovers Wehrlos seated on a bench with the wounded feline. To Wehrlos’s astonishment, Sein heals the cat. In a show of gratitude, Wehrlos offers Sein a drink as a token of appreciation. Sein, however, politely declines, instead requesting information regarding “Gorilla,”a childhood friend he has been trying to locate. Wehrlos, confused, admits he can’t recall anyone by that name.

The seasoned dwarf then suggests that Sein accompany him to a nearby bar where they might uncover more about the warrior known as Gorilla. During their walk, Wehrlos probes into Sein’s connection with Gorilla.

Upon discovering that Gorilla and Sein were childhood companions who aspired to become adventurers, Wehrlos emphasizes the absurdity of the situation when Sein admits to not even knowing Gorilla’s real name.

The narrative then transitions to Lore, who instructs her shadow warriors, Wolf and Gazelle, to take their positions for battle. Frieren senses their movements and attempts to flee, but an arrow fired towards her is intercepted by Stark.

Wolf praises Stark’s swift reflexes and skill, adding to the already dire situation. As Frieren and her team take cover to evaluate their predicament, they acknowledge Wolf’s impressive marksmanship, able to target them from several blocks away.

Fern tries to retaliate against Wolf, but Frieren intervenes, advising the group to evade detection from the Shadow Warriors. Meanwhile, the scene returns to Sein and Wehrlos, who have reached the bar where Lore is organizing her operation against Frieren.

Disguised as a street guard, Schritt dismisses Wehrlos and Sein. Nonetheless, Wehrlos attempts to guide Sein into the bar through a secret passage he claims to know. Suddenly, Sein senses Frieren’s mana and breaks away, stating he has pressing business to attend to.

As this unfolds, Frieren and her companions conclude that Lore must be utilizing “Goddess’s magic”to pinpoint their location. In a separate location, Lore directs Wolf to assume a new vantage point, believing that he has already dealt with Stark. The chapter culminates with Stark collapsing, leading Frieren to suspect that he has been poisoned.

Conclusion

Chapter 135 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End notably centers around Sein’s reentry into the storyline, paving the way for a potential reunion with the party. Wolf’s comments and overall approach suggest that Stark may have been afflicted with a deadly poison, creating a scenario for Sein to address.

The brief exchanges between Sein and Wehrlos subtly hint at the possibility that the dwarf warrior may possess knowledge about Sein’s friend, who could very well be one of Wehrlos’s past targets. This raises the prospect that Sein might uncover Wehrlos’s connection, potentially leading the old warrior to betray the shadow warriors in order to atone for his past sins and repay Sein for aiding the cat.
