Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga announces August 2024 return date from hiatus

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe’s fantasy manga series, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, revealed that the series would end its hiatus and continue on August 7, 2024. It was announced that the manga would resume its publication in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday, starting with the combined 37th and 38th issue.

Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe’s fantasy manga went on hiatus on May 15, 2024, after briefly returning from a one-month break on April 24, 2024. Upon its return, the series will continue where it left off, following the journey of the elven mage.

Since its launch in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020 by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, the series has released 13 volumes. Most recently, the manga has been adapted into an anime by Madhouse.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga to Return From Hiatus on August 7, 2024

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the official X account for Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe’s manga, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, announced that the fantasy series will continue its serialization in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine starting on August 7, 2024.

The manga unexpectedly went on a break in the 25th issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on May 15, 2024. However, the reason for the sudden hiatus was not disclosed by the magazine.

The series previously went on a one-month hiatus from March to April before resuming on April 24, 2024. Similarly, the manga went on a hiatus in January 2023 and was later serialized again in March 2023.

The ongoing manga Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has already published 130 chapters. The current plot centers on the Foundation Festival Arc, where Frieren’s group joins forces with four top-tier mages to safeguard Serie during the grand ball at the Imperial Capital’s Foundation Festival.

As previously stated, the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga has currently published 13 volumes. VIZ Media has obtained the rights to distribute the manga in English and has already released 10 volumes. The company has announced that the 11th volume is set to be released on September 10, 2024.

Surprisingly, the manga’s circulation has reached 20 million copies, almost twice as much as before its anime adaptation. The anime was produced by Madhouse and debuted on Nippon Television’s Friday Anime Night programming slot on September 29, 2023, with a special two-hour episode.

The plot of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga centers around Frieren, a skilled elven mage, who survives her previous adventuring group, with whom she had vanquished the Demon King and brought about a time of abundance and harmony in the realm.

Despite her inability to fully focus on comprehending human emotions, particularly those of Hero Himmel, she continued to embark on various journeys. Many years passed and Frieren found herself once again on a new journey, this time with a different group, as she sought to deepen her understanding of humanity and uncover a hidden aspect of her own identity.
