From Exposure Controversy to Being Targeted by Min Hee-jin: How Long Will LE SSERAFIM’s Adversity Last?

Ever since the start of this year, the group LE SSERAFIM (consisting of members Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, and Hong Eunchae) has been constantly embroiled in a string of controversies.

In January, the initial controversy surrounding LE SSERAFIM was sparked by the daring “pantless look”featured in their third mini-album “EASY”. When the first trailer was released, Kim Chaewon and Huh Yunjin’s bold outfits without pants caught the eye of many and sparked a variety of opinions.

Some concerns were expressed about the clothing, with worries about teenagers potentially imitating the style, finding the bottoms too provocative, and feeling uncomfortable due to their unexpected short length, which may evoke thoughts of underwear.

Despite some optimistic interpretations, which saw it as LE SSERAFIM’s latest endeavor and fashionable approach, concerns about the provocative exposure controversy were significant even prior to their return.

In the aftermath, Taiwanese singer-actor Huang Weijin faced backlash for his sexual harassment of LE SSERAFIM during a Chinese broadcast program.

During the event where LE SSERAFIM was eating sweet potato balls with bamboo skewers, Huang Weijin made inappropriate comments that were deemed as sexual harassment. As a result, the cast on-site criticized him for his “verbal slip”.

When word got out that LE SSERAFIM had been the victim of sexual harassment, supporters from both local and global communities heavily denounced Huang Weijin. He issued an apology, explaining that his actions were a result of the broadcast and his natural impulse to react.

Despite having recently achieved the impressive feat of being the fastest debut artist to enter Coachella, LE SSERAFIM’s glory was short-lived as they became embroiled in a controversy surrounding their singing ability.

Despite performing a total of 10 songs on the stage at the renowned music festival “Coachella”in the United States, LE SSERAFIM’s unstable pitch, awkward demeanor, and tense appearance resulted in a lukewarm response from the audience.

As Coachella is known for its high standards for live performance abilities, LE SSERAFIM’s perceived lack of skill received harsh evaluation from the public. The band faced increased criticism after their initial performance, further intensifying concerns for their upcoming show.

Despite the controversy surrounding the group’s skills, Sakura added fuel to the fire by making a confident statement. She asserted, “While some may view us as immature, it’s important to remember that no one is perfect. Despite this, I firmly believe that our performance on that stage was the best we have ever delivered.”Her words directly challenged the “skill controversy.”

Despite the increased backlash against Sakura’s statement, some individuals continued to criticize her for being unaware of the situation. The negative atmosphere surrounding Sakura only intensified, and the controversy over Kim Chaewon’s “finger cursing”was also brought into the mix.

Shortly after receiving backlash for their vocal skills, LE SSERAFIM found themselves involved in another dispute when ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin stated during “NewJeans’ mom”Min Hee-jin’s press conference that LE SSERAFIM was the reason why NewJeans could not debut as HYBE’s first girl group.

On April 26th, Source Music, the agency of LE SSERAFIM, eventually released a lengthy statement expressing deep regret for the unpleasant emotions caused by Min Hee-jin’s remarks. The statement acknowledged that her comments included inaccurate information and disrespectful expressions towards other artists.

Source Music has declared their intention to enhance their legal actions against malicious posts, encompassing all forms of abuse such as random insults, false dissemination, sexual harassment, slander, and mockery, in order to safeguard their artists.

The authorities cautioned that any attempt to manipulate public perception with inaccurate information would be considered as dissemination of false information. Additionally, all forms of mockery and disrespect, such as verbal attacks and sexual harassment, would be subject to legal action.
