From Feral to Friendly: The Art of Animal Taming in Once Human

Witnessing wild creatures transform into loyal companions through taming is an exhilarating experience. It requires patience, skill, and trust-building, ultimately strengthening the bond between you and your tamed animal. It’s a test that is well worth the rewarding results.

The introduction of the ‘Ranching’ function in Once Human allows players to capture and nurture animals within their base. Here are all the essential guidelines you need to know in order to successfully tame even the most untamed creatures, such as wolves and crocodiles, and turn them into your loyal companions.

1. A Beginner’s Guide to Taming Animals in Once Human

With Once Human, you have the chance to tame a wide variety of sixteen animals ranging from the top-ranked S-Tier to the dependable C-Tier. To begin, simply access the Memetics menu and acquire the taming skill, opening up endless opportunities to capture and nurture your own personal wildlife companions.

To properly take care of your domesticated animal, begin by constructing a safe enclosure to avoid any possible escapes and to keep yourself safe from potential attacks. Then, utilize the Agriculture section in the Function Facility menu to create an animal trough for the purpose of providing both food and water.

Don’t forget to regularly feed and give water to your animal, and be sure to take additional measures to avoid any hostile animals from attacking each other.

Catching The Animal

To access the Animal Capture Memetic, go to the Logistics tab in the Memetics menu and pay 7 Ciphers and 2,000 Energy Links.

• Use an Intermediate or Advanced Supplies Workbench and materials like Steel Ingot (3), Engineering Plastic (8), Rubber (5), and Stardust (3) to create Tranquilizing Throwing Needles. Place the Tranquilizing Throwing Needle on your hotbar.
• Locate an animal to capture, but make sure to choose one that is not corrupted or affected by the Eclipse. This will be your target.
• To decrease the animal’s health without causing its death, take caution in bringing it below the white line by using techniques such as removing weapons or using bare hands or an axe.
• After the animal has been weakened, transition to using Throwing Needles and take careful aim to tranquilize it.
• Once the animal has been successfully hit, it will enter a temporary state of sleep.

To capture the tranquilized animal, simply approach it and press F. This will add the animal to your inventory, allowing you to take it back to your Territory.

Housing The Animal

Once you have returned your captured animal to your Once Human Base, it is important to construct a secure enclosure to ensure that the animal cannot escape.

• To construct a pen without any gaps, press Z to enter Build Mode and choose a fence.
• Begin by collecting the necessary materials (50x Log, 12x Sintered Brick, 15x Aluminum Ingot, and 15x Adhesive) to create an Animal Trough. Then, navigate to the Build menu and select Facilities > Function Facility > Agriculture to access the building options.
• Put the Animal Trough into the pen.

To place the captured animal in its new enclosure, select it in the Tools section of your inventory and press F to “Use”.

1.3 Feeding the Animal

To ensure the happiness and health of your animals, make sure to fill the Animal Trough with both water and their preferred foods.

• Each animal has unique dietary preferences, which can be discovered by hovering over them.
• However, you don’t need to constantly hunt for these specific foods. A convenient alternative is to cook Animal Feed products in your oven using basic ingredients.
• Despite not being their top choice, these feeds have a longer shelf life than regular food items, making them a sensible choice for keeping your animals both content and well-fed.

1.4 Taming The Animal

In Once Human, you have the ability to care for and train up to six animals in your Territory. In order to promote their health and obedience, it is important to adhere to the following guidelines:

• Remember to consistently provide food and water for your animals, as failing to do so can result in a decrease in their happiness and tameness levels.
• To access an animal’s information regarding its diet, favorite foods, and fulfillment meters, simply hover over the animal and press F.
• In order to increase tameness, it is important to ensure that the Happiness, Energy, and Hydration meters are maintained above 30%.

Levels of Animal Tameness:

• Animals that fall into the 0%-20% category are considered aggressive and may attack. However, none of these animals will produce any supplies.
• During the time period of 20%-50%, there will be no production of supplies.
• Between 50% and 80% of the animals are able to produce supplies and follow commands for combat purposes.
• Animals that score between 80%-100% are able to reach their maximum potential, effectively producing necessary supplies and providing assistance.

By ensuring that you comprehend and fulfill your animals’ requirements, you can establish a bond of trust and unleash their maximum capabilities.

List of Tameable Animals

The taming process is enhanced by the tier system, as each animal is assigned a tier rating, ranging from S-Tier to C-Tier, based on its taming abilities. This system adds complexity by making it more desirable and challenging to capture higher-tier animals.

Once Human allows for the taming of the following animals:

• Wolf
• Rabbit
• Ram
• Boar
• Crocodile
• Bear

While developer Starry Studio has already announced plans to introduce more animals and a breeding feature in future updates, it should be noted that this list is not exhaustive.
